I have a friend with a Llasa Apso who has been very poorly for quite sometime so much so that they made the heartbreaking decision to have him put down last week. However, the vet was keen to try one last thing being PLT and he seems to have improved dramatically. I was just wondering if anyone has used this medication before and knows exactly what it is.

I wonder if it was from this
company as they produce drugs for treatment of heart problems

Do you mean "Predno-leuco-tropin?" As in an anti-inflammatory, steroid/painkilling tablet? It is a last resort for many dogs as it often makes them sick and they are not able to tolerate it well, for those that do, yes it can have a dramatic effect.

Hi Dawn
Yes that's probably it, it just says PLT on the paperwork. Its sounds like he won't be with them for very long then. My friend is going to be heartbroken after she prepared herself for the worst she now thinks he is going to be fine. Its sounds like this might just help short term.

I have used PLTs for years on and off William was on them and they gave hime pain free latter years with us
Mattie My old Lab is now on them and she does well she is very arthritic the vet said to give her days off but you can tell the days she hasnt had her tablets.I had to ask the vet for them its not a drug they offer out a lot they usually put them on metacam or rymadil William and Mattie had also had Rymadil they caused them to be sick(vomit)
We once rescue a very old lab from the stray kennels he was literally on his last legs he improved dramatically and lasted for 5 months and was happy.
So I would say they were very good
PLT was prescribed for my Beardie due to her arthritis. Didn't agree with her as it made her incontinent of urine after a couple of days. Vet said this was an unusual reaction only found in a minority of dogs!
