Thinking of getting a dishwasher..old one does not work as well. HE used to be very efficient but now I want a proper one!!(LOL)
Seriously, anyone recommend a cheapish one..only on low budget for this.

Indesit do one for around £200

Whatever you do dont buy Hoptpoint they are the worst dishwashers in the whole world.  I have had 3 since last year the final straw being when the engineer told me it was not capable of washing dirty plates (not with bits on just dirty) so now have got a Zanussi which was £229
- By mason [gb] Date 18.05.05 13:48 UTC
I have had a zanussi for 12 years its been brilliant, still washes perfectly, the only thing that I do need is new top and bottom baskets as the plastic fittings that run along the rungs have worn

Snap Mason - 12 years for my Zanussi too and have the same problem with the rings on the runners - if you find out where to get them, would you let me know please.  If I can avoid buying new baskets, I will.

No problem Fiona, when I find out where to get them I will let you know, I dont really want to buy new baskets either but if they come as a complete thing then I will have to. :D Sarah

Bosch are the best!

TTS, funny you should say about Hotpoint....our hotpoint has lasted about 8-9 years!!!!!!!! used at least once everyday, normally twice.  have noticed recently it's not as good.  However this is what they made 8-9 years ago, not recently! :)

I've got a slim-line indesit one (only two of us excluding the numerous pets lol) and its been fantastic, was something like £190 - hubby fitted it so that didn't cost anything. We have had it for about two years now and have had no problems at all - great little washer would recommend. :)

Sue, I have mentioned the indesit one quite a few times on here as my very first dishwasher I bought in 1989 and it is still pure white and going strong in my mothers house. Still looks like new honestly.

I've got a Bosch one and its fab :)  Unfortunately they aren't the cheapest.

Bosch - brilliant!

Bosch, Miele or AEG, the german machines are the best.
- By briony [gb] Date 18.05.05 20:56 UTC
Hi,

I find Miele the best doesn't come cheap but so worth every penny for machines built to last :-) and are up to date still saving for their washing machine already have their timble dryer and dishwasher.

Briony :-)

My Hotpoint lasted 15 years after being bought second-hand so definately value for money and if it's good enough for the Queen............
- By ManxPat [im] Date 18.05.05 21:46 UTC
Miele, Miele, Miele every time. My last one was 24 years old, second hand from my mother, and whilst it still washed I had to get rid of it because I could not get a new front panel. I had a Zanussi for 4 years and I got rid of it because we spent more time rewashing and handwashing, back to Miele and we are happy. Also very quiet, well worth the money.

We now have a Bosch. All I will say though is don't get a Whirlpool !!!!

We've had a Zanussi since 1989. Its been brilliant though the outer casing is beginning to crack now.

Lots of food for thought here....just got to wait till pay day now..

My parents have had a Zanussi for something like 15 years, and although one of the programs hasn't worked for quite a while, they have never complained about it not washing well...I wish I could say the same about our little Zanussi, which was brand new  here in the house when we moved in 18 months ago. I don't know if it is the hardness of the water here or what, but it will only wash dishes which are almost clean to start with! (yes, I have tried every possible cleaning agent) So no bits or stains of any kind or the dishes will come out looking they way they went in! How many times have I had to handwash plates straight out of the dishwasher only to find out the stains come off very easily! The idiot who built our kitchen didn't stop to think that most dishwashers are of certain measurements, and left a gap way to small to fit hardly anything but this crap little Zanussi...the same goes for the washing machine and tumble drier slots, although having had to choose Indesit for the former and Hotpoint for the latter, 18 months on I am still actually very pleased! We previously had all brand new Miele appliances, and boy do I miss that nearly-silent and super efficient dishwasher! It was so quiet that to start with I thought there was a fault and the machine wasn't actually running. :D (the silence is a plus if you live in a flat and often run the machine at night...I could even have the washing machine going through the night and the guy downstairs slept like a baby- and also lived below us in our previous place and we couldn't dream about running machines at night there!)

Hi,

Yes the Miele products are fantastic I wouldn't settle for anything less :-)

Must disagree - my Meile was C**P! In the two and a half years we had it, it needed repairing twice and the third time I decided enough was enough. Now have a brilliant Bosch which was much cheaper.

Hi,

Interesting we have all different opinions :-) I woudn't touch Bosch with a barge pole, they used to be good for some of their woodworking machines and thats about all although my partner being in the trade doesn't rate their machines that highly.

I suppose that you can get a "Friday" machine whatever the make Briony!!

Some 25 years ago I worked for Lever Brothers (Persil, Comfort etc) and while at The Ideal Home Exhibition, had Hotpoint Washing Machines working ALL day!  They were continually breaking down (always just as I was about to close a sale!!) to the point where we kept the engineer in the cupboard!!  A couple of years later, a friend stood on my doorstep on Christmas Eve with a Hotpoint dishwater on a sack barrow - and I really didn't know whether to laugh or cry BUT that machine worked well for 12 years with no attention whatsoever!!

Must say that my whole family have Bosch washing machines and dishwashers and none have had a problem.
