Just back from vets, no idea what is wrong but got AB inj. and tablets. Last night Tia started wretching and bringing up bright green bile. A little later she was heaving and throwing up like no tomorrow. But what she was bringing up was vile. Black, solid like poo and the most disgusting smell. It took me ages to clean as I had to go out and throw up twice myself the smell was llike rancid cesspit. She is very dehydrated and groaning as if she has stomach pains. This has all happened very quickly as yesterday afternoon was running around like a mad thing and even into late evening. During the night she became much worse. I really cant think of anything that would have caused this. Have to go back to vets in morning or call them if she gets any worse.

Hi KayC
It sounds (to me) like Tia may have one of the viral bugs going around? 4 out of 6 of mine were really poorly with this back in January, started off with the horrible sickness that you described & then really, really bad squits :-( Mine ended up having the AntiB jab & Metrodizanole tablets along with Diarsanyl & I also gave them a herbal tincture. It was 10 very long & tiring days before my lot finally turned the corner & were able to eat again. Strangely enough my youngster (also called Tia!) & my old girl, both who you'd have thought most vulnerable, never got it (thank goodness!).
Because of how bad mine were (& the fact that I feed raw) one of the first things I did was take a stool (sludge) sample in for testing. I had to wait what seemed like forever for the results but absolutely nothing was found.
I don't know if your Vet has advised starving Tia but it's something that I would do & then gradually build her food back up again when she's settled. I'd also start back by giving her some Tree Barks mixed with some natural live yoghurt & some Manuka honey (at least 5+ strength) to help heal & line her tummy & intestines.
Of course Tia may have just been eating disgusting stuff she shouldn't have ;-)
Hope Tia's feeling much better soon :-)

Hi Lindsay, I am now begining to think it may be some sort or viral bug, I now have another two labs started the wretching and bringing up bile. So far no black sludge that Tia brought up. But none of them have the squits. Tia has just slept all morning with the occassional groan, but is drinking tea, cant get her to drink water, but tea is going down a treat. I did think it may have been something she ate as she is a typical Lab and will scavenge for anything, edible or otherwise, but I am sure she hasnt eaten anything she shouldn't have.
Yes vet did suggest starving her today, just water and glucose and some chicken tomorrow with a little rice. She doesn't seem to be getting any worse, just feeling really sorry for herself.
Have got the yogurt, but will get some honey, many thanks for that tip.
Kay

Hope she feels better soon :(

I hope she feels better soon Kay. She's such a lovely happy girl, it makes it really difficult when they are not quite at themselves. Hope the others all feel better too.
Lets us know how they get on

Oh Kay that sounds awful. Hope she is feeling better soon and the rest don't get it. I maybe inclined to not to feed any of them too much today..in hope :-)
Sent you a PM before I saw this.

I had the same thing a few months ago with one of my girls I think she had eaten one of the mushrooms that grow in certain parts of the garden (yuck) I always make sure there are non around before I let them out but they seem to only appear after lots of rain worth thinking about !!!she was pretty sick and same colour vomit as you describe I just starved her and made sure she took fluids took a few days but she was fine.

Hi Kay,
sorry about Tia :( and really hope the others don't turn out to be as badly affected. I'm with Lindsay on the honey - seems to really perk them up when they are very poorly and can't or shouldn't eat. I always give poached white fish for the first 48 hours following a fast when they've had really bad tums - then move onto chicken and rice.
Sending healing thoughts their way. Teri :)

Hi Kayc,
You don't think she could have swallowed something do you? There isn't a blockage!
Is the dog still going to the toilet? is it normal? Sounds awfull.....

Hi Denese, I would have been worried about blockage, but since another 2 of my dogs have started the wretching and bringing up of bile, thankfully none of the awful sludge that Tia brought up, yet, I am now more inclined to thinks its a bug of some sort. She has perked up a little, still feeling sorry for herself, but he eyes are brighter if you know what I mean. The other two have not been as sick as Tia and are still pretty normal, although temps are slightly high, but not a concern. Just keeping a close eye on them at the moment. The rest have shown no symptons at all, yet!!! She has been to toilet and is pretty near normal.... Going into evening surgery just to be on the safe side. Thanks

Well it looks like we have a 48 hour sort of bug, Tia back to normal, two are just getting over it and another two have just started relieving the stomach of tonights dinner. Still have no idea what is cause, neither does the vets, obviously gastric, but not an enteritis, but now have antibiotics for the rest of them on standby. thankfully it does not seem to be anything serious, but cannot think where I could have picked this up. The only one who hasn't shown any symptoms is the one who went to training class on Monday.
