Dear all,

My Shar Pei Bitch(9 months) has recently developed a lump under her skin(a couple of cm's) on her hind leg. I noticed it through her fur. I have taken her to the vet who shaved the area. The vet didnt know exactly what it was put gave me some cream to apply twice daily. I have to keep applying this cream for two weeks and keep an eye on the size of the lump.

Could the lump be excess Mucin?

I havent noticed any difference in her, she is as still playfull as ever and is eating, drinking well etc.

The vet says that her coat is in poor condition. Im currently feeding her once a day with Kobi Dog Complete mixed with Natures Way/Finest Meat. She is currently malting and so I believe that this could someway explain her poor coat condition at the moment.

I have now changed this to twice a day but with the same amount and introduced Primrose Oil Capsules for her coat/skin.

Has anybody experienced something similar or could offer me any advice please.

Sorry to hear about your shar-pei, i too have a shar-pei she is 18 mths old.
The only person i have had advise from is  www.karistosharpei.co  she is really really good on advise on the breed.
I would also try and find a shar-pei vet too.

Is this lump, rather like a fluid filled water lump/blister ? If so yes it will be the Mucin that makes and forms the wrinkles in the Sharpei breed.  A lot of the breed can suffer from it, several of mine have had this from being youngsters. Can be a single blister or a cluster of tiny blisters.
As long as it isnt bothering your dog, I'd just leave it alone, sometimes they can burst on there own, if so just wash the area with a saline solution, and just watch for any infection, but this is very rare as long as the area is kept clean.
If it does bother your dog, just get a clean disinfected sawing needle and gently insert it into the water/mucin blister and pop it to allow the excess mucin to flow out, clean area as above, and everything should be just fine.

Do You think her molting is because may be she is coming in to season, i always no when blossom is coming in to season, the hairs are a nightmare everywhere lol

But its more than likely that this bitch puppy is moulting out her 1st puppy coat, and you know how bad a first moult can be sometimes, these dogs can look like they have been badly neglected :0(  LOL others look like the moths have been at their coats.  I'd get this puppy on a good source of Omega 3 fish body oil. Quistel do a super quality one, and add 5mls to her morning meal, the evening primrose will only help marginally, and Safflower or Starflower oil is better than the evening primrose, more GLA content, again works well within this breed. 

I wouldn't class myself as the bee's knee's Jane (but thanks all the same :-) just a guardian of the breed, whom has encountered more than her fair share of breed issues over the 10 1/2 years of owning the breed..LOL
