Hi people,

Im thinking of geting another English Bull Terrier pup. I currently have a 10 week old dog, and have found out that the breeder has been forced to sell the pup she was keeping for herself due to work commitments. The other puppy is a bitch, and is from the same litter.

Just wanted to know is it generally ok to keep a dog and a bitch from the same litter together? Will they fight at all?

Any info would greatly be received.

I would never recommend two puppies at the same time. It's four times the work for half the success rate training-wise.

Unless you're a very experienced dog-owner who's used to havng multiple dogs I wouldn't even attempt it. Concentrate on the one you've got.

You wouldn't find out until they are mature wether they would fight or not...and then its too late.Far better to stick to one,get it trained and enjoy your time with it and then ,when she has developed her character and you can see if she is dominant/submissive/aggressive etc then make your decision

Ok thanks for your help. I know the breeder would say this but she has said that it would be good for him to have a play mate etc, how is it that the training would be harder?

For a start they would be distracting to each other and you would need to do three times the training.  Each seperately so two or three lots of walks eah one and together and the same with formal training.  your time would be divided between them rather than devoted to the one.

You'd have to train them each separately so they concentrate on you, and then repeat the same training with them together, which takes longer because they're distracting each other. I'd expect the average person (ie me!) to get a pair of pups to a satisfactory standard of training at about 4 years old as opposed to one year old with a single pup.

But then I'm probably a rubbish trainer, because I have other things in my life that need my attention - my job, my family, etc ...
