I would like to ask a question regarding training. Hopefully I am in the right subdivision of the forum. How do you teach a dog to do asearch sqaure?
Thanks

First you teach it to hold anything and everything without chewing or dropping.
The you teach it to pick up anything from anywhere and bring it to you.
Then you start putting in poles in a tiny square and letting it watch whilst you place things in it.
Then just increase the size of the square to competition size.
Once you create the desire to go out, locate and retrieve things to you, a dog will search any area for anything..
Thank you Tohme. Much appreciated.
Just to add, I send my dog into the wind although not all do.
If you have a puppy, the idea is to get it keen on articles as much as toys, so for instance, it sees a watch strap or wallet as a toy. This really helps to create the keeness to do the square.
Clicker training is excellent for teaching a dog how to safely hold articles (ie in the front of the mouth).j
