Topic Dog Boards / Health / Ripped nail and problem clipping

Hi my dog split his nail afew weeks ago and it was so sensitive he would not let us near it. He has always been VERY VERY difficult when clipping his nails and we usually tempt him with a pigs ear while it is being done.
It was just before Crufts so we took him to the vets to have it done. He was terrified and sprayed his anal glands all over the vets walls! After much fuss the vet managed to clip it with 2 others to help. Now HORROR!!! he has done the same thing with another nail and is far more sensitive. Every time I try to look at it he grumbles at me and runs off. he is due back at the vets this week for his rabies blood test so I don't want to take him for this or his fear of the vets will increase, but I need to try and get the broken part of the nail off as it is sticking up and will be worse if he catches it. Any suggestions. How do others cope with clipping nails. All my GSPs dislike it but I can manage the others, it is just my boy.
thanks
