My bitch started in labour yesterday afternoon.....panting and very restless. This lasted all night, and at 7.50am this morning noticed a water-bag protruding. This burst and clear fluid spilt out. Since then nothing. She seems very calm and relaxed, still panting a bit but no apparent contractions. Phoned the vet but she said don't worry for a couple of hours yet. But I am very worried. This is not her first litter, with the previous 2, once the water-bag appeared, things happened very quickly! Am I right to be concerned or am I panicking over nothing?

Hope all is going well! If you're not happy with her progress insist on seeing the vet......I listened to their advice last year when they said wait and see and it left me with a stuck pup that I had to remove myself that was still born.......fingers crossed she's started delivering by now :)

How are things going?  Hope all's OK.  I've always been advised not to leave it longer than an hour after a bag has burst.  Have everything crossed that all's OK.  Keep us up-to-date when you've got the time :d

Well it's 4.55pm now and she has only produced two puppies. One at 10.10am and one at 12.50pm. A dog and a bitch. Both are doing well, as is Mum. I still can't quite relax though because she had 4 in her first litter and 5 in her second. This whelping has been totally different to the other two. Can,t help hoping for a couple more! This will be her last litter and the little bitch pup is slightly mis-marked! Still I am just thankful that Mum and babes are doing well.

Thanks all for your replies. It really helped to know that there are people out there that have been through the same "trauma".

Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry it's taken so long for me to reply. She finally had the first puppy at 10.10am just as I was about to phone the Vet. Large dog puppy! Hope the others will soon follow. Must go!! Thanks again. Will update later.

Good luck Lopear!  My girl whelped last week she had two in 25 minutes then waited 3 hours before having any more........then had another 4 in 55 minutes!  It's the long wait in between that's worrying, we were just getting ready, like you, to go to the vets, when she got out the whelping box and produced this pup on my kitchen floor!

Hope all is well.
