Hello everyone, and my first post is on this delightful subject! :) I have a three year old female Westie who sleeps under our bed, or on the bed if OH is away! Not had any problems before but over the last couple of weeks she has started weeing and soiling in the kitchen almost every night. I can't think of any changes in routine that might have provoked this, and because we are asleep when it happens we can't catch her in the act to let her know it's 'not on'!
Would be most grateful for any suggestions or advice. Many thanks.

I don't quite understand - if she sleeps under (or on) your bed how can she be soiling in the kitchen?

Perhaps she wants out, so is going as far as she can, but doesn't know how to wake the OP

If that's the case the obvious answer is to shut the bedroom door so that she can't ...

It's strange at that age to want out at night tho' isn't it ?? Mine never ask to go out at night.

We have always left our bedroom door open so she can have a wander in the night if she wants to. As I say, this hasn't been a problem in the past, I'm just at a loss as to what has triggered it?
She is our third Westie so we are well used to this lovely breed, but this hasn't happened with our previous two (both boys)
Hi
I dont mean to worry you but my old dog started doing this at about 4 yrs old. It turned out that she had a benign lump inside her that was pressing on her bladder and therefore I would suggest that you visit the vet. She only did it in the night because she could get out during the day and therfore we didnt notice the increased peeing during the day. Ours had the lump removed and recovered fully. The poo that came with it didnt have any bearing to the lump but just seemed to be something that came when she wee'd - like a reflex action.
Other than this it could just be something that shes going through at the moment. I have often found that dogs do funny things and by the time you find what you think the answer may be they have stopped!
As I say, I dont mean to worry you and im sure that its nothing severe but its always worth visiting the vet if you cant find the answer elsewhere.
Good Luck and let us know how you get on.

Thank you for your reply. She seems fine, but as you say you can never be sure. I'll just see if it's a passing phase, otherwise I think I will try the vet.
We shut the bedroom door last night and she woke me up a couple of times moving around - I think I was half listening out for her. Then at 4.30am she was scratching on the door so I ended up in the garden with her! Don't really want to encourage that every night now she's 3 years and not 3 months! :) Didn't have any mess inside though.
