Sorry Frodo, did not mean to be vague. Have you heard the saying, "black as jet?" It is from the semi-precious stone, jet, which was most popular in Victorian times. Jet is a glossy black stone which is used for jewellery and polished flat or cut with facets in it. My grandmother had a jet necklace. If you do a search for "Jet" and "Whitby" you can find lots out about the stone.
When our beloved English Springer Spaniel, Whisper, passed away my husband wanted our next pooch to be a female black Lab, like the one he hunted over with a friend. We already knew we wanted to call her Jet. Thus her full registered name is Castilleja's Jetstone Jewel, which allows us to shortform it to Jet. So there you go, that's the link between my dog's name and my quest to find jewellery made of jet in memory of her. I was pretty sure other dog people would understand my desire to have jewellery made of the same stone my dog is named for and that is why I posted here. Thank you so much Moonmaiden, for offering to help out. Jet herself would give you one of my shoes as a gift, if she could.
As an aside that may be of interest, the kennel we got Jet from, Castilleja, came highly recommended to us by other Lab breeders, Veterinarians and the secretary of the local Georgian Bay Field Trial Association. When we visited the kennel in spring of 1993 they had 70 dogs. 70! 40 of them puppies, with two more litters on the way. In all those 40 puppies there was only one female black Lab. So, while the stone Jet is only semi-precious, our own poochie-girl named Jet is a rare and precious thing.
