My 12 year old Black Lab is named Jet, after the semi-precious stone that is mined in Whitby, North Yorkshire, UK.  After years of searching I have finally found an internet source of jet jewellery, at Victorian Jet Works, in Whitby.  Unfortunately their email is not working and my faxes are not going through to them either.  Their phone and fax, from their website, are the same number, 01947 821530.  Is someone willing to act as an intermediary for me?  If you are in the same local calling area I could email my fax to you, you could print it out (two pages) and maybe you could fax it to them?  I will provide contact details if there is a positive reply here.

Poochie girl's full registered name is Castilleja's Jetstone Jewel.

Hope that was clickable for you.  Thanks in advance.

have you tried using their enquiry form ? if you click on what you are interested on & then go to the checkout it generates an enquiry form

If you have been trying to get them today they are probably shut/very  very busy because today is a public holiday :) & they might not be working or have been very very busy as the weather has been lovely & they are based in a very popular seaside town

Yes, I did, several times over the past few months.  Moonmaiden, you have obviously looked at their site, have you had success with their on-line order form?  I have taken to sending them weekly emails that ask, "email working yet? n/t", and have had no reply.

At a guess frondo I imagine thwe poster wants some jewelry made either that includes their dogs name or a piece of their black lab. :D

Sorry Frodo, did not mean to be vague.  Have you heard the saying, "black as jet?"  It is from the semi-precious stone, jet, which was most popular in Victorian times.  Jet is a glossy black stone which is used for jewellery and polished flat or cut with facets in it.  My grandmother had a jet necklace.  If you do a search for "Jet" and "Whitby" you can find lots out about the stone.

When our beloved English Springer Spaniel, Whisper, passed away my husband wanted our next pooch to be a female black Lab, like the one he hunted over with a friend.  We already knew we wanted to call her Jet.  Thus her full registered name is Castilleja's Jetstone Jewel, which allows us to shortform it to Jet.  So there you go, that's the link between my dog's name and my quest to find jewellery made of jet in memory of her.  I was pretty sure other dog people would understand my desire to have jewellery made of the same stone my dog is named for and that is why I posted here.  Thank you so much Moonmaiden, for offering to help out.  Jet herself would give you one of my shoes as a gift, if she could.

As an aside that may be of interest, the kennel we got Jet from, Castilleja, came highly recommended to us by other Lab breeders, Veterinarians and the secretary of the local Georgian Bay Field Trial Association.  When we visited the kennel in spring of 1993 they had 70 dogs.  70!  40 of them puppies, with two more litters on the way.  In all those 40 puppies there was only one female black Lab.  So, while the stone Jet is only semi-precious, our own poochie-girl named Jet is a rare and precious thing.

Welcome to Champdogs, Jetstone!

We too had a labrador by the name of Jet - he was part of our family for nearly 13 years - a lovely boy - he was a very big lab, and soon earned the name of Jumbo Jet :)   However he was a dog of very little brain (unusual in a lab) - but was lured into mischief by his partner in crime, a border terroriest (okay - border terrior) by the name of Tramp.

I bet you really miss him.  How big was he?  Did you know the meaning of Jet when you named him that?  We have met two other dogs named Jet, both males, and neither owner knew Jet was a semi-precious stone.

Our Jet is small and at her usual 55lbs weight just barely makes the minimum for the breed standard for a female.  That is fine with us as she takes up less space in the canoe when we are tripping.  And I can cram her into the big side of the laundry tub for a bath.

Jet's best doggy friend is her "cousin" Laddie, who is 1/2 border collie.  They have great fun tearing around together.  Laddie thinks he is herding and Jet thinks they are playing tag so it works out well.

Thank you again Moonmaiden.  What does PM mean?

The jewelry is nice, isn't it?  I want to enquire as to having them do some custom work for me and buy some ready made pieces for me and some for gifts to give at Christmas.

THANK YOU MOONMAIDEN

My Jet jewellery arrived in the mail yesterday.  It's BEAUTIFUL.  A fitting tribute to my lovely Labrador Retriever, Jet.  I am very pleased.

Thank you Moonmaiden for acting on my behalf in this endeavour.  It seems the Victorian Jet Works, now named The Whitby Jet Heritage Centre, is still having trouble with their email.  I ended up phoning several times but it is amazing how cheap it is to call to the U.K. from Canada.
