did you think it is bad to mate from parents with a combined hip score of 63its i bought a puppy newfoundland and later i read the totals of the parents being not sure about scores and thingd i bought the pup and then found out average hip score is 29 combined for both parents and im a bit cross that my brreeder had the pups with scores like that i know it dosnt always affect the pups but my girl is very slow and getting up and dosnt walk to good already and shes 2 now

it's a shame that you did not check the hip-scores BEFORE you purchased the puppy!

You haven't quite understood the hip-scores, I'm afraid. You don't combine the scores of both parents - they both have their separate hipscores which is a combination of the score of left and right hips, and ideally only breed from parents with a score of less than the breed average.

For Newfoundlands the average score is 27, but the median score (the most common score) is 19, so in an ideal world only those scoring less would be bred from. What were the individual scores of the sire and dam?
