Ive got one of those bi-orb fish bowl things, I had it all set up, water was ok and lovely and clear. Ive now got a couple of fancy goldfish in it and over night the water has gone really cloudy, infact I can see dust type stuff swishing around in the water :( does anyone have any ideas how I can get rid of the cloudiness ?? or what could be causing it ?
Claire :)
They go like that for a couple of days when you first get fish but it will settle down
I only have a small tank but i got one of those pump/filters for small tanks from pets at home, its great the water never really gets dirty

Its got a filter/pump which is working, ill just have to wait, and ickle Frederick and Benjamin will have to put up with their tank being cloudy a bit longer :)
How long was your tank set up for before you put your fish in? I know with tropical you have to leave the water quite a while to let all the chemicals evaporate, as soon as you add fish it upsets the balance again. How often are you feeding them? Ideally once a day is enough. I have a 20 gallon tank with a Fluval 2 plus and a Fluval 3 filter running in it, plus a 10" airstone and it's as clear today as when I put the water in 5 months ago, you just have to remember to change 1/4 of the water once a week, leave it to stand over night before adding it to the tank!
Maybe the filter/pump is only just big enough for the size of the tank..........normally the ones that come with the tanks aren't really that good.

Take a sample of the tank water to your local "aqaurium shop". They will be able to test it and will probably sell you a bottle of stuff to treat the water.
That is what happened to us. Depends what is in your local water ( I think it was chlorine that was causing the problem we had).

I live in a very chalky area so it could be that, but the thing is it was fine when I put it in. I think I will take some to get tested, thankfully the fish seem ok :)

Our tank was set up for 2 weeks before adding the fish and was perfectly clear initially. Pretty soon after adding the fish the water went cloudy. After getting the water tested and getting the stuff to treat it it was fine thereafter.
We are in NE Scotland and I thought our water seemed okay but apparently not.
