any ideas how I can stop my 6 month old lab eating snails? are they harmful? he is eating Burns so I don't think his diet is inadequate.

There has been a thread about this recently.....hit the SEARCH button (top right of this page) and type in snails.....it says it all!
Best to try & keep the wee beasties from him!

Yes, they are harmful. :( Not only can they carry parasites (lungworm I believe), but if they've ingested snail/slug bait your dog could be poisoned.
My little 11 week old Lab puppy is obsessed with snails too.
Last thing at night he goes out to toilet, finds a snail and runs indoors with it in his mouth and drops it on the carpet!! Luckily he's not actually eating them, he just likes rollng them around!!
Perhaps its a Labrador thing...
I don't think so - my lakeland terrier did it when he was little.
We actually had a piece of rag that was known as the "snail rag" for removing them from his mouth - half-chewed snail is far too revolting to touch with the bare hands imo. He stopped doing it after a few months and, looking on the bright side, is now very good about giving up anything he's got in his mouth, or opening his mouth for you to have a look.
