Hiya,
Does anyone else have this problem with their labrador? Kobi has started to develop a bit of a wave on his coat down his back, it started off near the tails and is slowly spreading towards his neck, the hair feels much oilier and rougher where the wave is. I was hoping to maybe eventually show him if he was good enough and am a bit worried about this, will he grow out of it? Does he just need a good bath? Anyone got any ideas?

My Lab has a wave on the back of her coat, she has had it since she was a puppy and she is now 2 and a half and it is still there (so no, a good bath won't get rid of it!!!). I'm pretty sure that a slight wave on a Labradors coat is accptable in the breed standard, as I have asked this question before myself... although I have never wanted to show Emmy, so I've never delved that deeply, I'm sure others on here will confirm for you.

Hi Smurggle, I honestly would not worry too much about the coat just yet :)  Below is exactly what the breed standard states on this.

Coat

>Distinctive feature, short dense without wave or feathering, giving fairly hard feel to the touch; weather-resistant undercoat.

This was another of the slight faults that I had with Tia, but since her 1st season and the loss of all her puppy 'fluff', her coat has developed really well without a hint of wave.  I know some Labs tend to keep a slight wave, and although it is highly undesirable, I have seen some very good labs in the ring and this fault has not diminished their overall placings.  I suppose it really depends on how wavy the coat really is, there are much worse faults seen in the ring at the moment. :(

What I am really saying, is give showing a go if that is what you want to do. None of us have that perfect dog, although they are perfect to us :D

   HI
Smurggle  , you get wavy coat in a lot working bred  Labradors  FTCH Haskeyne Moss had a very wavy coat and a lot of his pups carry the same coat , on the plus side Labs with the wavy coat tend to have very good thick coats
