hello we are due to bring a staffie puppy home in a couple of weeks, also we are going on holiday abroad in the middle of August and would like to know whether 3-4 months is too young to board a dog at our local (well respected!) kennels for two weeks.
Will she still remember us? I am unsure, and feel bad and wonder whether we should wait and get another puppy on our return, any advice for a new owner would be greatly appreciated! thanks, nina

Hello Nina,
I personally wouldn't take a pup so young into a kennel (and the better ones here won't take them under 6 monts I think) because that is the age when they take so much in , learn new things, get to know their surroundings, learn toilet training, learn who's Mum and Dad and who's just a nice auntie, etc. If I had to go away at this stage, I would agree with Lara and ask the breeder if the pup can come back, because at least then it would be in experienced hands. Have you chosen the puppy yet? If you have, then I understand it might be difficult to decide to wait for another one. However, if you haven't had your heart set on this individual, then perhaps it might be better for everyone to wait for another puppy when you are back home and settled. You see, imagine the little thing being taken from its litter mates with these strange people into this new and scary place, and just when he is feeling at home and happy, on he goes again! And two weeks later he's coming to you again, and I wonder if the little mite might find all this moving about a bit stressful. (Well, he might not, could be just that I am a bit soppy...) Others might disagree, this is just what I would possibly do in a similar situation. ;)

Hi, I have offered to take pups I have bred whilst owners are on holiday, as I know that staffs dont exectly 'enjoy' being kenneled if they are not used to it. You could have problems in later life if your pup is too traumatised, by being left in noisy kennels. I dont want to worry you, but my old Staffy (whos ten now), went into kennels at the vets for treatment for three weeks..he was a rescue and hated being caged, unfortunately he broke ALL of his canines trying to get out and had to be sedated until he was better. I can only leave himwith friends now if we go away-Is there no-one who could help you out? I'm sure the breeder would be willing for a small consideration, you should discuss it before you take the puppy on , or just wait until your holiday is over and find another pup. Good luck xx
