Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Introducing a pup to two dogs

Hi....I was reading in a book that when introducing a pup to an existing pack, the existing dogs should be introduced on nuetral territory and oner by one.......I was wondering.....would you introduce the top dog first or the lower ranking dog first???

Just wondering that's all!

common sense says to me that you would be better introducing it to the top dog first as the other one would follow suit, but in saying that the one at lower rank may feel threatend, when i got my new pup i just held her in the house while the others had a good old sniff and they are all fine now i only let the pup down when i new it would be safe.

I would suggest that you introduce the dog which is more likley to be calm and gentle with the puppy first, as this will help to relax the puppy around other dogs before meeting the slightly more boisturous one. The puppy will then be much more comfortable aroung the new dog. Neutral territory is definatly a good idea too, good luck! :-)
