Topic Dog Boards / Showing / age for entering companion dog show?

What age do pups have to be to enter.  I thought I might give the hound a little practise run before she goes to her first show.

Officialy 6 months, though many organisers turn a blind eye or owners tell a white lie about the dogs age.

<LOL> Brainless,

I took my first puppy when she was 14 weeks!!!!!  I think the teeth if nothing else would have given her away :D - but then again half the time the person taking the entries hasn't a clue what breed you've got anyway so ....

Teri :)

Hi TTS,

They should still be 6 months but I always take mine earlier and simply ask the judge if they can be gone over but explain it's "NFC" - they're usually very happy to oblige :)

I did a show a couple of years ago.  I refused an entry because the pup was 12 weeks old, a number of dogs from a litter were there to watch as they were 2 weeks short pof 6 months.  The judge a KC member, I may add, let the 12 week old pup be shown and he also gave it best puppy.  Have to say I was none to pleased as I didn't allow any of my litter to be shown.

It's a great to take your pups though to get used to the experience.
