Hi,
i have a twelve week old westie pup (male) he is going to the toilet no 2's alot and they never seem to be solid enough,we are surprised at the amount he is passing as we are feeding him the recomended amount,he always seems hungry,we have changed his diet to a different all in one dry meal sugested by the vet on his last visit for his final injection,i told the vet that i was concerned as he had been loose as soon as we brought him home, the little fellow has settled in very well and does not seem to sicken for anything except human company,he now seems to be hyperactive since being on this new diet, maybe we should have persiveered with the one the breeder was using,we are new to the westie clan, and feel abit vunerable to wether we are giving him the best start with respect to food,he never goes short of love and affection, and is bonding well with the family,he's so sharp and friendly, and wants to please, slightly over excitable on the chewing front, but a joy to have, please could anyone advise us on wether this problem is curable or needs further in depth investigation,
Thanks
Steverobo
hi steverobo...
My pup is 12 wks (malamute) aswell and i had the same problem when i fetched mine home. our Kai was being fed with pedigree puppy by the breeder, but after a few days of constantly runnyish no 2's i said enough was enough. i am now feeding burns mini bites and he is doing fine now been on it 3wks or so. he only goes 3 or 4 times aday and are nice and firm.
it could be a case of over feeding or
sometimes if the feed is too full of fillers as oppose to good nutrients, this can cause more at the other end (in frequency and less than solid ) as theres not enough goodness in it to be absorbed so the rest has to come out :-(
this is just what i have found through reading old posts on here and a bit of research on the net..... and IMO it made sense and has worked for us..
Im sure others will recommend some other feed aswell :-)
hope that helps :-) and hope the problem improves
P.S. what feed are you feeding him?
Hi Jane,
Thanks for the reply, the advice has been taken on board, and i will be looking into the feed problem, its reasuring that its not a major problem health wise, you asked what i am feeding him on?,well the vet gave me a Product called Hill's puppy scientific plan i think its full title is that only i havent got the bag of food to hand at the moment,Bobby was on the same feed as your dog when he left the Breeders, (Pedigree puppy all in one and Pedigree puppy mixer!) we tried him on this but as the last post said it was a nightmare with his toilets,if you can suggest a well balanced diet,it would be much appreciated,it may be a matter of trying several until the suitable one is found, but that seems unfair to the dog and his system!.
Once again thank you Jane for your reply
Steverobo
your welcome steverobo...... :-)
i would reccomend trying the burns as the have a very good approach to feeding dogs as im sure lots of other people on here will agree, it has been very successful with lots of other doggy problems aswell
have a look at their website
www.burns-pet-nutrition.co.uk
p.s. not sure why a pup would be on a complete (all in one) food and mixer aswell, a complete food is what it says .... complete.

Get him off the Hills expensive food that the vets get commission on and stick him on Naturediet or Burns.
I am sure he will be fine.
