Does the 5 min per month continue forever or is there an age that I can relax this rule. Gabi is dog agressive so can only have on lead walks.

It depend on the breed but I'd say at around 1 year you can start to up the exercise, our 2 and 6 year olds would quite happily go all day and most days get at least 2 hours off lead running but we have had then out all day, ie four hour walk one way, stop for lunch and back again..next morning me and mam can hardly walk, girls are asking when we can go again :D !!!

Gabi is nearly 16months and she is a german shepherd. Have to be so carefull because of the hips.

Oh, I love GSDs, my grandad had one, she was called Sheba, of course!
Should wait for some advice from someone who has GSD experience as you do have to be careful with the bigger breeds, don't want to hand you poo advice!

Hi:) I have a German Shepherd and I kept using the 5min rule up till he was around 18months then he has a minimum of 2hrs a day. They say 2 hrs should be enough. HTH

Just to add, variuos GSD owners have told me this as well as the vet but amounts may vary from person to person and dog to dog :D

I think the rule is a useful guide.  with my own pups I ahe sometimes had them out a bi5t too long, so next day I cut the excesrsie down.  It is just eing sensible.

By two years old when you have reached two hor walks you are probably past the amount of walking most people woudl do with their dog in oen go anyway :D

My 19 month old and 13 year old go out for two hour wwalks with my freind and her dobe and baby in pushchair so a steady pace for the old girl.  I usually only let her do this on alternate days though.

My pace is not so great me being 60 years young. Just to make sure I'm doing it right at this age (16months) she should be having 1hr 20mins split between the two walks i.e. 40mins each one or is it 1hr 20mins each walk?
