Hi I have a neutered male lab and a nearly spayed bitch weimaraner.  I am going to get a dobermann, what I need to know is do I get a male or female dobe.  Has anybody else on this site have different breeds living peacefully together.

I think another bitch would probably be best, if you get another male they may fight to be top dog, as for different breeds i have to westies, male, female and a female bullmastiff they all get on great i dont get involved when the have their little arguments i leave them to sort it out but it's not serious.  If you do get another pup never scold your other dogs for telling the pup off as long as it is not serious because this could cause fights   hope this helps frank

I don't have different breeds now, but have had in the past. We always had bitches (ok, 1 or 2 dogs over 15 years :) )

I would ask myself which of the dogs you already have is the most dominant? Bringing a puppy of the same sex COULD bring trouble if it turns out to have a dominant trait itself. Especially if it's another bitch. They tend to fight to the death, if they really mean it. Dogs rarely do. They will fight and sort out the pack order very quickly. In saying that I have had up to 6 bitches living together at the same time without a murmur, or even a dirty look. :D

Hi Guest

My advise would be to wait until you only have one dog and then get a Dobermann of the opposite sex

hi i have a staffy, bloodhound cross a toy yorky and two newfoundlands they all live very happily together. however frank suggested a bitch to stop the males challenging for top dog place and i have to agree. though you male at present is castrated and are suppose to be less challenging. my bloodhound cross is castrated before we had him, and he accepts the newfy male they never fight. go for abitch i would. good luck

You could say the same about humans,LOL!! Men tend to sort out their differences quickly and move on,whereas women tend to be bitches and hold grudges that tend to drag on forever :D

I definately agree with the above posters, get the opposite sex of the current dominant dog in the pack :)

However Kerioak also has a valid point, you probaly already know that you will have your hands full with a dobe pup on top of your other dogs. It's hard to comment as we dont know your full situation. Why dont you join,it only takes a minute :)
