hello People,

I will be getting a puppy in 2 weeks and was just wondering(as im new to all this) what you use to clean the carpet when the puppy has wee'd on it? do you use some sort of antibacterial stuff? i did read somewhere that people use washing powder??

Any info would greatly be received!!

We use white vinegar and mop up with tissues. This does deter the pup from returning to the same place. Just a tip if you keep a watchful eye out for the pup circling and also put outside when he has woken up or just after eating and playing and using a word when the pup is going like be quick or wee-wees, and followed by clever lad/lass then this will help. Good Luck with your new babe.:-)

I have always used bacterial washing powder in warm water :)

I used to do two things as I suspect your question relates to (the disinfecting thing, and the washing powder thing).

The biological washing powder thing is well recommended (on here anyway, and that's where i got all my tips from!) for being the most effective at masking the smell, to discourage the puppy from returning to the same spot to wee again.

However I would be dubious at its disinfectant ability, and it sounds like you are worried about keeping the carpet clean too, so you may find yourself doing what I did - I used to clean the area first (started off with all kinds of cleaning methods, eventually found it quicker just to reach for the Flash antibacterial wipes!) and then once the area was dry I would then spray the area with a biological washing powder solution for ridding the smell.

Maybe the washing powder this is just as effective at cleaning (after all, we use it for our clothes!) but I always preffered to clean the spot first with something else.

However this does mean you seem to be constantly walking around with flash wipes (or j-cloths and cleaning stuff), and kitchen roll (drying up) and washing powder solution!!

oh, and also, I could still never quite get rid of the marks - I only have one room with a carpet, but its a raised texture carpet so has major seepability where fluids are concerned!

So every so often, I would use a carpet cleaner product on the most stubborn stains.

No white vinegar doesn't mark carpets thats why I suggested it.:-) It does get rid of the smell and disinfects at the same time.

I mop up the excess with tissue then spray with Vanish and give it a good rub.
