Hi Maysea,

Yes, some years ago, and it does work.  However, as with all diets there are risks and things to tempt you.  I never was a great fruit lover, but a few days on the Atkins and I was yearning for an apple.  Faddy diets always effect me like this, 'cos whatever I can't have is what I really want, so I can't win.

I gave up dieting when I was 36 and apart from some fluctuation when I gave up the fags, I am exactly the same weight now as I was then.

Don't diet - change the way you live/eat, and remember, a little of what you fancy does you good.

Good luck! :)

Hi Maysea,

I've tried it a few times.  The first time I gave up because I felt really ill, and the second and third times I stuck at it for a week or so, but gave up after that.

Pros:  Don't feel hungry, can eat lovely things like bacon and eggs, there are some 'no carbohydrate' chocs out there if you need them
Cons: special chocs are expensive, can get bored of eating the same thing, ie, meat, can be expensive buying meat all the time (can't have processed food), you expect to lose a lot of weight but it doesn't always happen.

I found that my biggest problem was I was expecting a huge weight loss, but it didn't appear, only 2lb a week, and I figured I could lose that just doing Weight Watchers, so went back to that, as at least then you can have the best of both worlds (Ie, meat and carbohydrates)

Ihave been on it before and lost 2 stone in 5 weeks. :D but i gave up as i felt so slim but now its all back and more.thinking of trying again as it is such a fast way to lose weight.

I tried it once, but was completely miserable and really down ... only lasted about five days and then I gave up and went back to a kind of low fat, healthy eating, DIY one.  It's so difficult to stick to these things at the best of times and not being a huge meat eater I found atkins really difficult.

What I want to know is why wasn't Mr (or is it Dr?) Atkins thin?

Probably because he followed his own faddy diet! LOL :)
