does anyone feed tripe to their dogs.
seen it in my local pet shop today in freezer but on the packet it says only for working dogs.has it got a high fat or protein level?

I think it says only for working dogs so you get it VAT free - could be wrong though.  I feed mine on it and they love it.  You cant only feed tripe on its own though because it wouldnt give a balanced diet :)

Green tripe:

Moisture 71.37%
Crude Fat 11.70%
Protein 15.82%
Ash 1.23%
Phosphorous 0.14%
Calcium 0.12%
Calories 756.35 cal/lb.
pH 6.12
Lactic Acid Bacteria 12,000 CFU/G
Linoleic Acid (EFA) 2.72%
Linolenic Acid (EFA)

This is a typical analysis not necessarily that of the product you are looking at. Working Dog label is just to take advantage of VAT exemption.  I feed tripe regularly but NOT exclusively, as tripe does not provide a total nutrient balance, like most foods, dogs must eat from a variety of sources to obtain their nutritional requirements.

Just a little bit mixed with their dinner encourages even the pickiest dog to clear their dishes.  When my children were small I only had one freezer (no money or room for another).  If I managed to get hold of some tripe, it went in (bagged).  I was so horrorstruck one day when my daughter had a friend for tea and she said her ice-cream tasted funny.  I realised it had picked up the flavour of the tripe!  Even worse, we were so used to it that none of us had noticed until she mentioned it!

I feed my pup dried tripe sticks (as a treat) and he loves them, does anyone know if there is anything nasty in them? or if they are as good as feeding non-dired tripe?

My two love them too - but god dont they stink, especially when they bury them down the back of the sofa :D :D

I think they are literally tripe which is dried so shouldnt have any nasties in them :)

Hi Maysea,
We feed our dogs on green tripe, they love it! They don't have it everyday though, One day minced beef, one day hearts, one day steak, one day green tripe, one day fish, one day chicken. All the red meat is straight from the slaughterhouse. This is all mixed with at least 5 types of fresh veg, pasta or rice, followed by wholewheat biscuits to clean their teeth.
Because  I am used to the smell of the tripe I remember when I first started showing , my girl would only stand for tripe.I was in the ring one day with tripe in a sandwich bag in my bum bag. I notices a family who had obviously just come for the day sitting at ring side, all eating their lunch.I was oblivious to the smell of the tripe then I noticed the mum asking them all to check their shoes!

My dog loves tripe...although yes it pongs!!

We tend to mix it in with other food though and alternate between tripe and chicken, our breeder recommended it to us.
