Our weim pup is 10 months and we are waiting for her first season! She has been licking herself lots recently and looks a little red and swollen. I have also noticed today an usual smell from her. We have also noticed some marks on the carpet, which are not bloody, but a little sticky and she seems very interested in them! (it isnt spilt food!!!) are these signs? i have read that sometimes a bitch can be in season without you even noticing, so just wanted to check!!

Our cav does the licking excessively about a week leading up to it. She's just come into her second season on tuesday and we have new light coloured carpets so the floor is a mess of towels. LOL. They grow up so fast.

I would say they are all good signs she is/coming into season. Just continue to keep an eye on her.

She is about the right age to have her first season. My bitch is in the first week of her third season at the moment I noticed an unusual smell from her on her first day it is best to mark the calendar so you have an idea of her start and finish dates approx 3 wks.
My bitch is very clean  and the show is minimal I find the best time to check her with a tissue is when she first stands up after a lengthy sleep. If you decide to take her for a walk it is easier to carry  her to the car and take a walk in a quiet non dog area to prevent males sitting at your door!  I have a large garden so I dont bother to take mine out during this time as she gets plenty of exercise playing football in the garden.
