I am hoping someone can help me. Firstly not sure if I have spelt that right so apologies.
I have had a pup who has had milk coming from his nose since a week old. He is a bit smaller than the others but okay other than that. He has been weaned for 3 days now and I have been keeping a eye on him and he has not thrown anything back up until today then I saw him do it after he had eaten. I am now begining to suspect this is what he has got but what I want to know is are there varying degrees of this. I do know of two people who have them and also one whos pup died after weeks of nursing and although a lot of books explain about the condition they do not explain what living with it will be like.
Years ago I had a dog live until it was 12 weeks, very heartbreaking I can tell you! He was such a wonderful character and went through so much in his short life
I've also had one that lived to a ripe old age with absolutely no problems after it was 8 months old, didn't need to change the feeding position or anything.
To find a definitive diagnosis the pup will need to be x-rayed.
I hope that all goes OK.
Thanks for replying. Do you think the one that lived had a good quality of life. I have spoken to a couple of friends who have said they dont have too many problems and also one who said the pup went through too much before being put to sleep. I am at a total loss what to do. He sits and waits for me to feed him as I have followed what I have been told so far which is to feed him upright. I am going to the vets this pm but I wanted to go armed with more information.
Yes he did have a great quality of life and I don't know why because I never had him re-x-rayed but after 6 months he started eating normally and I actually started feeding him normally on the floor after a while and he never had the problem again. Don't know enough about the complaint to know whether a pup can outgrow it but this dog certainly did.
The other pup that died at 12 weeks though definitely had a hard time and his death, which was quick, was still not a nice one.
I have just had it confirmed he has got one so am now stuck with what to do. The vet has said she couldnt tell to what degree he has it so I dont know whether to wait and see how it develops getting more attached all the time or whether to go for option B and save him any possible suffering.
