Does anyone know of any puppies between Stirling and the Isle of lewis in Scotland?
I arrive by ferry in Rosyth in the next couple of weeks and I'm looking for two puppies.
My dad has Parkinsons and I though that a couple of pups would make good companions and not be too overwhelming. Most dogs on lewis are border collies and a little too boisterous for my dad.
My dad's not old and has a lively mind and needs a focus....I thought this might help.
I've heard that pups cost over 400 pounds, is that the case ? Just so I can work out finances!!
I know it's a long shot that anyone can help.
regards
Katie

Labs are as bad as collies and would be too much work for your dad. Maby a cat would be better company?

One lab may do the trick but two is a definite no no.  You will have to remember that you will have to put in a lot of work with the pup and so will your family.

Sorry I can'#t help re. breeders and price etc.  but good luck in whatever you decide.

Hi
I would expect to pay AT  LEAST £400 ..probably nearer £500 for a well bred lab.
No reputable breeder will sell you 2 lab pups together...its really not a good idea.Although they may spend time keeping each other occupied more often than not that time will be spent getting into trouble!!2 puppies make 3 times the work!
My main concern however is your dads illness...this dog will be with you hopefully for the next 15 years...and will need plenty of exercise and training for most of that. Will your dads illness affect his ability to provide this in the future?

Where does it say that they are looking for a lab?

Yes I was confused as I can't see Lab mentioned anywhere either, but then sometimes I can miss things that are right in front of my nose :-)

Which breed are you considering? Prices and availability vary according to breed. Two puppies at the same time isn't really a good idea though - they tend to bond more with each other (same species, so they understand each other much better) than with the owner, making them very much harder to train.

Hi Katie

I'm fit and healthy and I couldn't cope with two pups at the same time :-).  I think if you're Dad wants a dog (I'm assuming it is his idea and not a surprise ;-)  ) then and older rescue dog may be more suitable.  I'm not familiar with the effects of your dad's condition but you may also need to consider whether there will be someone who is willing and able nearby to take over exercising the dgos if it became too much for him.  Maybe you could get in touch with the kennels in Lewis - They don't get a lot of dogs in (litters of pups are often flown to Inverness) but the owner may be able to keep her eye out for a suitable dog for your dad ;-)  If you join and leave an e-mail address I can send you some contact details :-)

HTH

Shirley :-)
