Hi, just wanted to throw a question around and see what people think. I have a 6 month old male staff and my neighbour has a year old staff female. We introduced them the other day and they were as nutty as anything running in and out of our doors and generally getting to know eachother. We then took them over the fields and let them off, they were running back and forth with great big smiles on their lovely little faces! It really was a joy to watch. After a while they got a bit fed up of eachother (or just got used to eachother) and was more interested in sniffing the environment. They got on really well with the usual rough and tumble that staffies are known for. Anyway, the next day we took them out again over the fields, only this time it was pouring with rain (don't know if this had anything to do with it) and my dog (Pepper) kept biting my neighbours bitch (Marley) on the scruff of her neck. She was just a bit faster than him and I thought he was trying to say, 'hey, I can't keep up with you!' but it was constant. Then she was obviously getting a bit fed up with him and she started bearing her teeth and biting him. It was only playfully but they got too over the top and we had to separate them. My neighbour said that the male dog was trying to make the bitch stand still by biting on the scruff of her neck so he could mate with her. Could this be it do you think? Pepper is 6 months so do you think he has the 'urge' yet? Marley was in season in December so it can't be that can it?
Please help!
Thanks, ali x x

ive got a staff bitch and she could be due in season and thats why youre male was trying to bite her neck. as my two male dogs do this to my girl when she is due in season or in season.
Do you think it's best not to let them see eachother for a while then? Can he actually impregnate her as he's only 6 months?

Yes mot definately.
I think Staffs just play rough, if you think it was too rough then i would be carefull when you take them out together, but when mine are playing they chase after each other pulling on each others collars and necks, i usually try and distract them with a ball, but it sounds pretty normal to me .

Young staffs can be a bit over exuberant which is what this sounds like to me
Take them out by all means but just be ready to supervise and put back on the lead if hes annoying the older bitch. Sometimes pups just dont when to stop which is what the bitch was probably trying to tell him :)

Staffies do play rough - more so when they are young, so quite normal.
To hear mine play with her doberman friend you would think she was killing him!

Hi I agree with the others Staffs play rough and at about 6 month old they play rougher than at any other time I think.
And the fact the bitch is only "slightly" older than him I would say she does not have the authority or strength/experience to stop him any other way.
I'd just watch their play - and make sure you control it.

Boy do they play rough!
As long as they are closely supervised they should be fine.
My male staff barges his mum when they are out. They sound like they are murdering each other sometimes but I know they are just playing. They drag each other round by the collar and allsorts.
