I have now bought, from First4pets.co.uk, a tub of these detoxifying tablets for 'Scratchy Safi'. Those of you who have given me loads of appreciated help, know who I'm talking about :D
Just wondered, has anyone of you tried this product before. I have just begun to give her them last night so we'll see if they help. She is still scratching, not as much, and she now has quite scurfy skin. Mainly down her spine. Or is that just where I can see it due to her parting ;) She is now on Mirracoat. Bought at Crufts from Canine Chemist, but have now been informed too much oils aren't good as they can clog up the digestion and give them indigestion. She is still on EPO and garlic caps. + Dorwest mixed veg. tablets as recommended. I feel she is getting far to much in supplements but am at a loss sometimes as where to go next. don't get me wrong, I give things a fair crack of the whip before trying something else. She doesn't get them all in one fell swoop!!  By the way, on a good note. Her poo's are now wonderful :D :D :D Thanks to the bones in barf. Maybe I shouldn't speak too soon. Just need to get this damn skin sorted and I'll be one happy bunny. She's always happy, even when ecstatically scratching :D

Hi Anndee,
Yes I know all about Scratchy Safi LOL.  If you do have any success with these Nzyme things please can you let me know because I had a email from someone about them and he highly recommended them.  Its just so hard to know what to get and what not to get.   I got him some zinc tablets last night from tesco and see if these make any difference.  He will be rattling when he walks in a bit. LOL.  I am changing his diet from JMB lamb and rice to Nature diet Lamb and Rice, because he is still scratching his ears whilst on the JMB and someone told me that they don't think dry food is particularly good for dogs all the time.  He absolutely loves nature diet, in fact he is bugging me now to feed him.

Don't forget to let me know if you think they make any difference and I will get some like a shot!

Hi Anna. Yes I know what you mean about rattling when walking ;)
Do you have a 'scratty' dog as well? What breed do you have?

Safi was on zinc tablets from Boots. I didn't find they helped but they won't have done any harm, I suppose. She also has sulphur pillules 30c from Boots. Which I'd forgotten to mention :p Now these do seem to help. Sulphur does cool the blood apparantly and she does seem cooler when I give them. Its a devil of a job remembering what you've given and when though when you're giving so many things. I have to write it all down. Then, when she stops scratching a bit you tend to ease off on something or accidently forget altogether to give it. I know with sulphur you do have to be very patient. I started her off on 2 pillules twice a day for a week, then 1 twice a day after that. I've just put her back on them as she had stopped scratching quite a lot but is doing it again now, but not as much. So they must help in some way. I wonder if you have to keep them on these remedies for life?

I will most certainly keep you informed as to whether or not these Nzymes work. I'll give them a fair trial though. Its nice to know someone has recommended them to you though. They must have worked for her.

Hi Anndee,

Glad you're having some success:-)

The Sulphur shouldn't need to be taken for life - I assume you're talking about Homeopathic Sulphur?  Homeopathic remedies are only intended to be taken as needed - once improvement starts, stop tablets.  A Homeopath would be best for advice.

Hi Anndee,

Yes I have a scratchy bichon, remember I recommended the piriton tablets to you last month and you pm'd me!   The person who recommended Nzymes to me was a man who got my email address from another site and was most helpful.  I will definitely get some if they help your Saffi though.

LOL Anndee i have a daily diary,a breed one, with a different picture of my breed on each page in which i write down all the supps i give my dogs, otherwise i would forget too,i also write down their reactions, what they've eaten on the day etc. I've got 2 years worth of writings,it's very handy when you need to go back and check something as it's all written down :)

In regards to the sulphur,i give msm which is pure sulphur, the homeopathic one didnt work for my itchy dog :(

I give 1000mg daily, plus i spray aloe vera(it's in a spray bottle) on her itchy belly daily, this seems to keep the itchies away :) All my dogs get the usual supps, salmon oil, vitE,instead of muti vitamins i give bee products, pollen, propolis, royal jelly, the latter is great for the skin and the pollen works for allergies, kinda like desensitization injections,I know wev'e discussed this before but it may help someone else with a itchy dog :)

Did you end up getting the bee pollen?
- By Anndee [gb] Date 28.03.05 22:02 UTC
Hi Anna, Yes of course, I should have remembered, knowing it was you who advised Piriton. I can only blame my age I'm afraid :( Either that or take more water with it !! :D :D
I feel I don't need to give the Piriton on a regular basis now but if I see anything untoward then I will give her some. But so far she hasn't had swollen lips or anything like that as long as I watch what I give her to eat.
I've actually oiled her coat today with some silk oil I had. Its spray on so I got it down to her skin and that seems to have eased it a bit, at least for the time being.

Hi Rose.
Thank goodness I aren't the only one to keep notes :)
Where do you get the msm please?
Also the aloe vera you spray is it ordinary juice type? As I have the juice form of it. could I use that?
I have got the bee pollen but haven't used it as yet. I will do though just as soon as I can ease off on something else. Or is it ok to give all these different things together?
And I'm waiting for the salmon oil caps. to come from Canada. Bought them via Ebay. Couldn't find any here in UK. where do you get your?
Thanks again for all the help. Sorry I get a bit forgetful whos advised what ;)

Hi Anndee

I seen salmon oil capsules when I was in Holland & Barratt last week, they caught my eye as I had been looking for some last year and couldn't find any.

Hi Andee,
I can vouch for nzymes Oxy Treats as they are called.  They cleared up a similar scratching plague my boxer had a few months ago.  Thankfully it has never returned.  I have continued to give Barney the oxy treats and have seen better health in general (more energy, less stiff - he's 8.5 years old) and a great coat!  This stuff really works and you'll see results usually within two weeks, although it may depend on how bad each dog's condition as to how quickly it works.  Stick with it and you'll not be disappointed!  Best Regards, Dave Swan.

Thanks Dave. That sounds promising then. At least they like the taste of them so its no problem getting them down them :) I may even start to give my other older one them, if it helps a bit of stiffness.

Hi AnnDee,
I found a helpful link on the website for www.first4pets.co.uk and you might like to check it out as it is very informative and mentions how Antioxidant Treats helps in the remedy. There is a xref page for problems/cures which is also excellent!

You can find the link at :
http://www.first4pets.co.uk/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?pg=yeastinfectiontreatment

I first found the site on www.UKpets.co.uk and then saw them several times since in the K9 magazine.

Cheers,   Dave.

Yeah, thanks for that Dave. Thats where I actually got them from, First4Pets.co.uk.  I knew they called them Antioxidant treats, but wasn't going to argue ;)
I sent for them last week, and started her on them on Easter Monday. Hope they are as good on her as  they have been for Barney. We'll see how they go :)

Hi Anne,

How did you get on with the AntiOxidant Treats?  Did you buys any and did they work for you?  I hope you got the same excellent results I did!!!!
Cheers,
   Dave.

Hello Dave
I did give them a go. I bought 3 tubs of them. I got through one and a half and she was still scratching, so, decided to get her allergy tested, of which the results have just come back (three weeks!!). I was told not to give her any supplements at all and only give her the kibble she was getting prior to the visit to the vet. which is Trophy salmon & rice kibble, hypoallergenic, until we got the results back..
Anyway we now have them back and it appears Safi is allergic to most things. No surprise there really.
Its only midly allergic. Most things are 1, on a scale of 1 to 5. A couple of things are 2, but nothing higher. So I'm thankful for that.
She isn't allergic to chicken, pork and oats and these are the only things that haven't come back with a rating. Everything else has, including enviromental things like grasses, some trees and bushes.
So going back to your question, yes I have tried them, no it doesn't look like they worked, but, I don't think anything would have to be honest. I would recommended them though, even though they didn't help Safi, I think they did/do her mum some good. I give her them but not every day. SHE doesn't have any allergies or problems, thank goodness.
