Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / 6 Month Old Cairn Terrier House Training

Hi,

My girlfriend and I work full time and have decided to care for a 6 month old cairn terrier that was being abused and neglected. We're both dog lovers, myself owning a yorkshire terrier and her shih-tsu's in the past and I'm just looking for general advice on house training, especially as he is over 6 months old and hasn't had proper house training. He seems intelligent enough, as with most Cairns, and he is responding to basic house training already, with less 'weeing', but he still seems to 'poo' whenever he feels like it. I've worked out he does need to go every four hours or so and seems to associate weeing with grass, which is good, but his 'pooing' is still problematic.

So, any advice on Cairns would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

hi this is not Breed Specific - it is dog and situation specific.  Forget he is a Cairn - remember he is a dog.  Hang on and I will try to find you a link re housetraining advice.  However I do not think housetraining is going to be easy or fair on the dog if you both work full time.  I think one of you needs to be there most of the time in order to ensure he does not have accidents.
