Hi , hope someone can help, took the dogs out tonight when i got back my bitch was limping, so had a look at her paw and a piece of pad about 1cm sq is hanging off, like a piece of skin would.
It is causing her a lot of discomfort as you can imagine, i cleaned it out with salt water, dried it put some sterzac talk on and wrapped it in a bandage. I am now starting to wonder if i should of cut the loose piece of pad of first, i was worried that it might not grow back, and by wrapping it a would promote it to stick back together.

What do you think is the best thing to do ?

Thanks in advance

Hi, I would of firstly had a good look at the pad just in case a slither of glass etc. had got into the pad. Sometimes this is very hard to spot. Use a torch and a magnifying glass and remove with tweezers. I wouldn't of bandaged the pad up. A dog  will lick it's wound clean and heal it quickly. Just make sure the animal is kept inside in a rested. Bathe the paw in T.C.P. and keep an eye on it over the next couple of days.
One of our girls have had a similar time chasing motor bikes on our local field. She was off the lead walking when a trial bike decided to cut across the field. She loves diesel engines and chased the bike around the field. When she finally decided to come back she was limping. It was only when we got her home we noticed she had taken all the covering off her pad. We checked it carefully for foreign objects, bathed it and kept her quiet for a few days. The pad healed very quickly.
