how many times should poodles be clipped a year? the lady who grooms my Grans dog seems to be clipping her a lot and its quite expensive, I want to make sure this lady is not ripping my Gran off, she is a home groomer so she comes to my Grans house and clips the poodle and trims her yorkie. How often should this be done?

Whenever the dog needs doing! :)

At my work we recomend that poodles be groomed every 6-8 weeks depending on the trim and for the yorkie we say about ever 8 or-so week to keep it tidy.

Poodles do not shed hair therefore they need clipping more often I usually clip them about evey 6 - 8 weeks.  The yorkie well it depends what sort of fur its got I have got some I do every 8 weeks some 3 months and some only twice a year.  Presumably your gran is the one booking the appointments so if she doesnt want them done then she has the power to not book the appointments so frequently.

As the others have said every 6 to 8 weeks.  My breed has a similar coat but we don't give them the fancy clips so only clip them once or twice a year.

Your gran isn't been ripped off, it's just the amount of times that a Poodle needs to go without the owner or the groomer having a nightmare time trying to get them looking good again.

i have been a dog groomer full time for the past 30years and believe me every 6 weeks is the norm.

If my customers don't come back every six weeks I charge them more as it takes longer to trim the dog.  I tell them this up front and don't have any complaints.  I can never understand why people buy a coated breed then don't want to put the work into them to keep them looking good.
