I have a cocker spaniel who has an extremely poor appetite, I have been giving him Enevite for the past three weeks and have managed to get his weight up by four pounds (a big achievment), however I can no longer get any Enevite as it has been discountinued I have found a substitute called Nurish-UM - has anyone tried this and had any success? or can anyone recommend anything else. Enevite has been the only thing he would eat off a spoon (tried fit and fertile and malted kelp tablets hated them both).

Hi Wendy, what food are you feeding your boy at the moment?
At the moment Fin is fed on Nutro however he only eats small amounts lucky if I can get 2oz in him a day so I supplement his diet with fresh chicken and saussage, I tried stopping the chicken/saussage but he just was not interested in the dried food. Interesting enough he loves natures menu treats which is a semi-moist food (hates wet food too) so I am wondering if he would prefer a semi moist food.

Has he been checked by a vet to make sure there is no medical reason for his poor appetite? Is he really underweight? Some dogs seem to thrive on very little food whereas others need what seems a lot just to keep their weight steady - there are many things that cause appetite to drop off - maturity where they don't need as much, illness, less exercise than usual

All of my dogs flat out refused to eat Nutro. They held out for 3 days absolutely refusing to touch it until i gave in ands gave them something different! They have NEVER done this with any other food.

go to www.petproject.co.uk and see if you can get a sample of fresh start or thrive which is specifically designed for fussy eaters.
It is NOT cheap but worth it. I suggested this on this forum before and it went down well with someone's dog (sorry I cant remember their name).
Do let us know how your little one gets on.

Thanks I will get a sample - you are right it's not cheap.

Wendy,
I bought Enervite from my local Pets at Home yesterday so it is available still! My oldie is eating terribly at the moment so I bought some for her, she will eat custard creams until the cows come home but dog food.........no way!
As for Nutro, I think it is a very good food, I raised my 2nd litter on it, Mia is on it at the moment and she looks pretty good on it! ;)
Hi Christine
When do you live? I can not get any Enevite around here and I am desperate for some.
Wendy

Halfway between Perth & Dundee. Have you tried www.hyperdrug.com they have it listed in their new 05-06 catalogue.
Christine
What page I can not find it. If they do not have it could I ask you a favour (if the favour is out of order say so) if I send you a cheque to cover all the costs could you buy me a few boxes? and send them down to me in the South?
Wendy

Of course Wendy. Phone number for Canine Chemists is 0870 225 4777 or email sales@hyperdrug.co.uk.
I think I will be at PAH later this week/weekend will check the stock there for you.
