What bedding do you use in your welping boxes?
If you use blankets, do you spread them the full length of the box or half way?
Could you use saw dust when the pups got older?
Or half blankets half paper?

USEFULL TIPS NEEDED FOR A FRIEND.

I wouldn't use sawdust at all because that's too easily inhaled and can cause respiratory problems. Wood shavings, however, are very good - but very messy if the pups are in the house!

I used to have the whelping box fully covered in vet bed whilst the puppies are small(with unprinted newspaper underneath), then half covered in vetbed with the other half covered with the paper when the puppies are pooing unaided by mum

I used to have at least 4 pieces that completely covered the whelping box(one clean, one in the box, one in the wash & one drying) & at least the same for the half cover.

I never kennelled any of my puppies so shavings were a no no

What is vet bed, and where do you get it from?

You can find something very similair to vet bed (polyester fur) at www.profleece.co.uk
Ive just used this and newspaper when my bitch whelped, she managed well with it during whelping, scratched and dug at it alot but no damage was caused. I would too advise you to get lots so that you can ensure your whelping pen is clean at all times.

I know someone who used wood shavings and while they are perfectly fine the puppies didnt like the feel of it! :D They use to lie on top on the bar around the edge (that stop the bitch squashing the puppies) They have a picture of three of them lying there!!:D Now they use half vet bed and half unprinted newspaper and it seems to work well

No idea! (And my husband's a printer!) Printed newspaper has never caused a problem as far as I know.

LOLOL I used to get the unprinted newspaper from my local paper & it was the ends on the rolls I think & got some from a chap who used to have chip shop who user  to sell it. It is now against hygene rules to sell fish & chips wrapped in Newspapers so they now have the unprinted news print paper

LOL it was for the bearded collies who somehow used to get grey white bits if they were on newsprint

You get it at the cash and carry ( the paper that is)... also chip shop paper  which is similar but smaller.

Think this is the cheapest place for the pro fleece and it is the best on the market. ( IMO)
