What is the best food for my puppy Shih Tzu. She wont eat dry food, just the pouches. Ive been told its best for her to be on dries food, and to find a one with the best needs for the breed. How do i find the right protein levels etc for her.

IMO it is not at all necessary for her to be on dried food. When you think about it dried food is the most unnatural form of food for a dog. They are also cereal based and dogs should have a diet that is meat based. I don't like those pouch things either - very expensive and have unnecessary things added loke salt and glucose syrup to make them palatable. If you want to feed a commercial diet I would put her on Nature Diet.

A hard food is better for your dogs teeth. Wet food tends to stick to the teeth and unless you're going to begin a good program of dental care you should at least mix the wet with dry and feed some type of teeth cleaning treats.

u say she wont eat dry food, but what do u do when she refuses to eat it? do u offer her something else.?
how old is she? u cud try soaking the biscuits in a little warm water to soften it for her til she gets used to it.

Hi, I have 3 Shih Tzu dogs, some are good eaters and others are not, my 14 year old was a terrible eater, he would eat every second day and only in the mornings. he is a good eater now but that is his age.
I have learned not to be too upset about them not eating as I have found through the years they will eat when hungry. My 2 year old only eats in the morning after his walk and then just a couple of dogs biscuits in the evening. I use Burns mini bites and they all love them, I do boil a little lambs liver and moisten the dry food with the juice and just sprinkle a bit of liver on the Burns, that trick was taught to me some years ago by a breeder of Champions and it really works.
