what age is best to wean pups and when do you normally extend their whelping box.
thanks
Well all pups are different and i dont know much about your breed but i weaned mine at 3 weeks .
I havent the room to extend whelping box as i have a very narrow kitchen and i like them being in the kitchen so they get used to family life, so i let them out frequently ( supervised, for a play and a cuddle), did this from 5 weeks, although they were handled often from birth.
Hope that helps
Good luck

thanks, if you dont mind me asking what type of bowl do you use their so small i dont think they could reach into a normal one.
this is for anyone that can help
You can buy flat sided pans especially for weaning, not easy to find, but im sure ive seen them on the net, i will try and find the name of the site ang get back to you.
Failing that you can use a baking tray, with a small or no lip, as they grow you can change the height of the dish you use, be warned for the first few days they will get more food on their bodies than in their mouths, its all good fun !!

I wean my pups with individual saucers (with the pups on my lap, fed one at a time) and then they progress to individual bowls (I can hold four bowls in each hand!), so they never have to compete for food and never become possessive over their food bowls.

Isnt competing for and learning to share food all part of growing up and learning for a puppy?
Amos

Not when so many people find their puppy growls when children etc go near its bowl and the puppy gets punished. All that stress can be avoided if the puppy has been taught to trust humans near its food from day 1.
