We're thinking of getting another staffy pup and I'd like to know if anyone can tell me what the hip and eye score should be???
Thanks :)
Hi Blondiflops.
The average score for staffies at 01/01/04 (the latest I have) was 12 (6 each hip) so you want to look for parents with scores lower than this. Puppies can't be scored until they're over 12 months so it's the parents you're looking at (though you probably know this!). I know very little about staffies so don't know what they're tested for eye wise but Ella's certificate shows a number of congenital and non-congenital diseases all of which should either be crossed out (not tested) or ticked 'unaffected'. The breeder should be able to show you both original certificates. Hope this helps!
Best wishes
Alex
Brilliant, thanks very much.
The last two breeders we got are dogs from were very helpful so I want to make sure I have the proper info incase we come up against anyone who isn't as helpful if that makes any sense!
Who will do the eye tests and hip scores the vet?? Just for future reference I would like to get my pups tested and scored etc
Thanks
Sorry only have couple of minutes! The x-rays for the hip scores are usually taken by your vet then sent to the BVA to be scored. For the eye test we went to a specialist vet who completed and signed the certificate there and then.
All the best
Alex

Staffys are tested for Hereditary cataracts (HC) and Persistent Hyperplastic Primary Vitreous (PHPV)
Thanks lel, I was hoping someone would come along who knows a bit more than me :)
