Me and Kayla are having our first go at agility next month, we can't wait, but I'm thinking that after a day I'll be hooked :D Have been meaning to do it for ages and noever got round to it then a breed specific day popped up and we are going for it!
Anyway, my question is really to do with competing, I've learned so much about showing over the past 8/9 months but no noting really about agility shows. Are there any forums that are good, any other sites or clubs etc, I know of the Independent Vizsla Agility board, where points are rewarded for certain wins etc but thats about all.
I know of one agility class, run by the same lady who runs the ringcraft we go to, but she has been ill so i'm not sure how viable that is, would the KC be able to tell me about agility classes?
Thanks in advance :)
Emily
PS the reason I asked without BCs is I know that ABC classes exist, but can we complete alongside BCs?

of course you can!!! & have the bonus of going into ABC classes too! lucky person!
id imagine vizlas would be good at this ,have fun
Hi
I do agility with a crossbreed and we do compete in ABC classes. These are special classes run under their own rules. However the vast majority of the classes I run in are normal classes which are open to all breeds of dogs. Have a look at the following websites as I think that you will find lots of information there. www.atilityeye.co.uk and www.agilitynet.com. Good luck and enjoy. Helen-Jane

I'd love to give it a try with my Irish girl. She's probably too old now being that she is nearly 4. Her recall is usually very good and her sit and stay isn't the worst. I'd be worried that ppl would laugh at us though :D :D :D
I might look into some classes in the summer and see how she goes.
You should go for it Alli, Kayla will be three in June so I wouldn't say your girl is too old. We already mess about setting jumps up in the garden etc and whenshe had kc I taught her to jump over my leg and through a 'hoop' made out of my arms :D !! This, BTW, was when she was nealr yover the kc but still couldn't go it, I needed something to occupy her to keep my sanity!!!
Whereabouts are you, this is a breed specific day BUT last time I know that an 'honourary vizsla', a rottweiler, took part so we are completely anti other breeds :D

Ok I'm convinced now!!! I'll give it a go. I do feel sorry for my oldest girl as she misses out because she doesn't like showing. I'll def get her signed up and give it a go with her. I'll start practicing now :D and maybe I'll be fit enough to keep up with her eventually :D :D :D
I do agility with a GSD and my westie had her first competition 2 weeks ago, we have another show on sunday, just for minis cant wait, good luck with your agility, have fun

Munsters4ever does agility with all her Large Munsterlanders - well not Kelsey (Her eldest) now but she does it with her 2 males.
I have a friend and she used to compete in agility with her Rhodesian Ridgeback!

I dont compete but my newfoundland does agility and loves it.
I have done agility with 2 Crossbreeds and am now starting with my Aust Cattle Dog, I used to be in a class with a lady and her 2 Vizslas and they were cracking agility dogs, super fast, intelligent, and wow, what a jump!!!
jack my sprocker goes over the agility course at work he loves it, only one of the 3 vizslas will go over the course, but since she has been in season she has decided that she no longer wants to do it, our weims love it as do the GSDs, tess and bruce my own labs love the course but bruces sister bo is scared of heights and shakes when she is more than 2 inches off the ground, and their dad Baloo loves to jump and can do an agility course no problem, but there is a snag if he can see a way round an obstacle he will go round it, so he will jump a 3ft fence that is in his path but you try and get him over the 3ft hurdle and he just looks at you as if to say 'yeah ok, are you stupid i can go round, just like this look' :D
good luck and have fun!

I started agility about 8 weeks ago in the beginner class. There were only 2 BCs (one was mine), there was also a JR cross, Flat Coated Retriever, Labrador, GSD x. All did very well and all passed the course. Enough said. By the way you wont get laughed at because of the type of dog, we had a laugh because the dog was doing it right but I just couldnt. dont know my left from my right.....

I am ringing round at the moment to find a class near us, seems quite a few for standard but none for mini agility, Kizzy is a mini schnauzer 13 inches, if anybody knows of one around Huddersfield, I would be very gratful. Branda Tenton in Halifax fully booked. Viv

On my breed list just learnt that a bitch who did Agility has just died at over 15 years of age, but what I didn't know was that she was the Top Agility dog all breeds wehn Agility competition was first formalised by the American Kennel Club. I knew Elkhounds enjoyed Agilty, but didn't realise they could be that good at it. :D She was CH Midnight Sun's Grin N Berrit.
Hi Emily
A vizla comes to our agility club and I train her :D the dog is great, shes quite quiet and sensitive but when she gets going she really speeds up, I think when she's got her confidence shes going to be fast! Hope u have fun at training!

I intend to do agility with my new baby, when he is bigger, obviously
I have to say that I wish I had introduced Truffle to the equipment when she was quite small. Obviously not jumping etc, but just for a walk round. As it is she will not put her paws on anything cos I waited to make sure that her joints were properly formed.
My young collie is 2 and didnt put her paws on agility equipment till she was 13 months :) came out at 18 months with my 11 year old sis and came 4th in elementary agility :D why wont your dog go near the agility equipment?

Individual Elkhounds ahve doen Agility in the UK at various times, but lots of them compete and have Agility Champion titles in the USA. Being shortcoupled they are quite nimble and reasonably fast too. They seem to be better at this than at Obedience.
I have a couple of nice pics of Agility elkhounds.
Brainless have u bred 1 i think called barbelka dynamite? does obedience? if you are the breeder just thought i would say - hes absolutely gorgeous! do u know what class he is working now?

I used to do it with my dobe -but he was too fast for me :D

hi
my vizsla does agility and is entered in her 1st show at the weekend.
She love doing this however she does struggle with the jumps set at 2ft6 but hopefully jumps being reduced next year.
She will be competing against collies but i am doing it for fun not to win lol
The kennel club regtered large shows and any breed can enter.
Hope u and yr viz enjoy agility
All the best
My Ickle Man went to his first class on Monday. Great on the catwalk, A frame, tunnel and jumping over, although he did dive under one how he did with the legs he's got I don't now!! He seemed to think that it was quite funny that he was running around with a pole on top of him :d
He didn't like the weaves though!! For some reason my Spanish always seem to hate this, don't know why?

I just do agility for fun, but I started with my first SBT years ago. My German Shep and 2yr old SBT do it and now I've just started with my young Groenendael. It seems all types of dogs love agility!
