Please can anyone help me my Dog Ito aged 9 a Pekingese is on medication, Frusemide 10mg, Spirolactone 0.5 of 25mg, Fortekor 5mg and Lanoxin 0.5 of 0.0625 A Day for his Heat Murmur, but happy in himself and very active, but there is one problem this is what happened for the reason of him started the medication every thing has been going really well for a couple of months until now started again. He can have two or three nights and not have them for a couple of weeks In the night Ito has been lay down on his chest he raises his head and back down for some reason this is a sign he lifts his head up as high as it will go fall over to his side his two front paws are shaking for a few seconds then he will scream out. I pick him up to hold him I keep calm talk to him to reassure him he is ok.  A vet told me he has passed out but I have been to a different Vet but even he isn't not sure. Has anyone been through the same thing as it worries me very much when Ito has these attacks

Hi Julie

I have a 12 month old Bichon Frise. He has had 4 attacks - like Ito he collapsed on his side, legs shaking. We took him to the vet who said Barney has a heart murmer. We then went for a 2nd opinion, they said the same. The vet has refered him to a cardiologist in Edinburgh ( we go next week). Fortunately Barney has insurance. In our case the vet said the reason for his collapse is a temporary shortage of oxygen to the brain - therefore the keeling over and confusion afterwards.

Edinburgh has some of the best vet care in the UK so I hope you all get sorted out.  Best wishes.

Hi Julie,

Yes, the same thing happened to my boy (Hooch) last week, he has been on Vetmedin etc for two months now and one night he threw up, (he had colitis) and while trying to cough up he didnt get enough oxygen to his brain and he went sideways and fell, his legs went up quite stiff and shook too.  I knew there was a chance he may pass out but I didnt realise it would be that traumatic either, it scared me a lot!  Hooch was just confused more than anything.  You did the right thing though, fresh air and stay with them for comfort.  I found this site tonight but I honestly thought I was hte only person going through this!  Good luck to you and Ito.

Hi My lab Hook has similar issues - he has not got anything wrong with him, just has a problem when he has done something silly, like running up and down stairs barking, especially of he was asleep when the door bell went! He goes all wobbly and I have to get him to lie down and be quite until it passes. Checked with the vet and she said it is just like a human faint, when not enough oxygen is getting to the brain.

Funny as Moose does that as well ! It is when she gets too excited :) The vet has checked her out and given her a clean bill of health :) Another spooky coincidence

We will find out we are long lost sisters next ! :D

LOL Lucy - perhaps it is all just associated with having Chockies and Scoobies ?:)

Could well be :D They had their maiden trip out in The Scoobie yesterday ! Mentioned to their Dad when he got home about G force and the effect on their wobbley jowls :D :D

:D:D We have trouble as Truffle insists on sitting up to see where she has been. With all of the roundabouts in MK she keeps landing on poor old Hookie.

Im thinking of entering her for a greyhound race as she came out of the back of the 'wizz bang' yesterday like a greyhound out of a trap!
