Please can someone help. Barney has started chasing his tail and biting it. He has bitten off most of the hair at the tip. I have had a look, and there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with it. He has been wormed. Sometimes it looks as though he is just playing, but it's getting to be a bit of a habit.

Not that i'm an expert but possibly a trip to the vets is in order to get it checked out. If nothing is medicaly wrong your vet should be able to refer you to a qualified behavourist who may be able to help. Hope this is of some use.

Hello,
sometimes dogs with an anal gland problem can circle/or tail bite depending on the breed and lenght of tail! it can be due to the anal glands getting impacted causing a feeling of discomfort to the dog which results in this kind of behaviour. Best thing to do is to take Barney to the vet to get him checked out!
good luck,
Carol :)

Dogs can also be obsessive/compulsive.  A behaviorist is probably a good idea after a trip to the vet if it's really a problem.
