Hi All

I have just joined as I found this website by accident and am absolutely delighted to have finally found a site that can help support or answer any questions I have.
I have 3 dogs and one of my girls is due the end of March. This will be her second whelp and I am dreading it. On her first whelp everything that could go wrong did. I am so afraid that the same thing will happen again. On her first time round we did everything according to the book regarding feeds, scans excerise etc.. Her scan showed 2 pups. When the day finally arrived she was doing alot of nesting and panting and the temp had dropped, but I noticed alot of green discharge coming from her vulva which I knew was a bad sign. I rang the vet straight away and I was told that some green discharge is normal before a pup is born and just to leave her alone. I had read that green discharge is not normal before a pup is born. It is only ok after the first pup is out. Anyway there was nothing more I could do but do what the vet had said. The result was that the first puppy was breach and was dead on delivery. I was so upset that there was nothing I could do. After all that had happened I was determined not to loose the second pup and I demanded that the vet call to the house as it was obvious that she was struggling again. He gave her an injection (cant remember the name of the drug) that induced her and the second pup came out perfect. She must have been in some pain because she was not a good mommy to this little pup for the first 2 days. I made her feed the pup and once she got used to it all was fine.

Now that she is pregnant again I fear the same thing will happen. We had her scanned when she was 4 weeks and all the vet could see was 1 pup. She has another scan today that will tell more. I would really be grateful if someone could give me some advice in helping my girl during whelp in the event of any problems. Am I correct in thinking that a green discharge before a pup is born is a bad sign?

thanking you in advance for your comments
