hi,im new to the forum,i dont want to be treading on anyones toes by asking some questions thats got simple answers.i just want to make sure before i go to buy.
i had a rescue cocker many years ago,she was blue roan & was so affectionate, she never put a paw out of place, she was layed to rest only 18mths of being with us,due to her sad past& no-one really knew how old she was, but she gave so much in such a short time we had together. im now in a position to be able to have a dog& iwould like to have another cocker,i have seen many colours around, the orange roan & choc roan have had my attention,as well as the blue roan.can anyone tell me do the colours of the dog give the dog a different temperament? as abby was the b/r she was adorable. also she was a small cocker which was to my liking.is there different sized cockers? i also didnt know that there was working & show dogs?i thought cocker spaniels was of one line, can this also be explained to me,i would like a small bitch that will be happy with a daily walk & love loads of love & affection, but i have read in an advert in a paper, from a person who had pups for sale, that cockers can be distructive& needs a huge amount of exercise.& that no pups would be sold if they were to be left in the home.i appreciate that any dog shouldnt be left for hours on end,but the way it read, the cocker cant be left even for the short time to go to the supermarket,is this also true? I hope i havnt offended anyone? thanks.

Cockers are very much people dogs.  but any dog must learn to be left on it's own for short periods, everyone needs to go shopping, run down the bank, and now and again go out for a meal (though we can't do that often!)

Some people will say different colours have different temperments, others will say they are all the same but its the lines.

Re working and show lines.  For working a dog will be finer, less coat and possibly more working instink and seem leggier.  The show type will have more bone, coat and be over all more "showy" Although you might argue they shouldn't be a difference, face the truth and there is!  Like any gundog she will need alot of attention and exercise, and I would say any dog needs at least 2 walks a day.

They will also love any attention you give them from my experiance.  But be careful where you get a puppy from, make sure you get one from a good breeder, with health tested stock.
