Just thought I would say ' Hello ' to everyone as I am new here, although I have been aware of the board for some time. I'm a live 'em and breath 'em kind of person....as I guess most on this board are too ! I started my interest 20 years ago with my first collie and obedience..took me on a long and interesting journey into the dog training world ! I have a WS at present...ex.working sheepdog...and she's a right madam !...and a Labrador 15 months who I shall be taking to gundog training next month. Got a bit dissilusioned with the obedience scene and so I'm sidestepping into gundog work...should be interesting as I've never done it before...I would love to chat to anyone who works their dogs in fields trials or working tests. I have no idea about how all this works - I mean what levels etc there are. I also fancy doing some showing...have hankered after it for a while, but never had a good enough dog for show. Only had a bit of fun doing exemptions. Not sure if my lab would fit the bill for show as he's more the tall rangier type...and he's too lythe at the moment probably...would need to have more ' bulk ' on him for show I think. I saw a really interesting article on the net about all the various ' types ' of labs with pictures...digressign a bit...have a habit of rambling - sorry !
I will be having another dog - hopefully in a year or so...at the moment I am still researching the breed, breeders etc - a cavalier king charles spaniel. I'm a little concerned by the health problems in the breed..but I think they are fantastic and have dreamed of owning one for about 20 years !...because I've been involved in rescue for years and years I always end up with ' rescue ' dogs...dogs I hear about that nobody else wants, except for the lab who I bought - even then he was four and a half months old, last of litter, booked by someone else who never turned up for him and the breeder needed to move him on ! But by next year I hope to have sourced a breeder of cavvies and gone on the waiting list for one...I want a blenheim bitch ideally and as well as showing ( competitive I should think in this breed? ) _ I will be doing mini agility with it.
Anyway, that's little 'ol me...
Hope everyone is enjoying crufts...I am one of the jealouse ones who's not going this year....only got the t.v coverage...by the way...does anyone else think that the presenters on that are rather silly...they seem to haev a kind of jokey attitude to it all - as if they're laughing at the silly world of dog showing...making a mokery of it....just seemed to sense it last night...Peter Purves was much better as he had much better and more sensible comments to make about the competition...
:)
