would anyone near Kingston up thames know if there are any Labrador puppies for sale around this area. Although i am willing to drive 30/40 miles for the right one. We are a family with lots of energy.and want to share our lifestyle with a dog. I have 3 girls but would like a male yellow or black lab puppie...my pet shop man reckons chocolate labs are much harder to calm down and train....is this true could someone tell me?
He said he knows of 3 breeders and trainers that have failed to train them!!?

hi i have a 20 month old choccy lab, she is the most docile dog ever, she is very well behaved, does what you tell her, loves to be fussed, and will play games all day if you let her, she loves to be with people and other dogs, i think it is how you are with them yourself. sue

well my 10 month old choccie boy is a real bundle of energy and very enthusiastic about everything! but he has already passed his puppy and bronze kennel club good companion training levels and he loves dog school and learns very quickly and is very eager to please. i dont know how choccies are as working dogs but as for pet training they do just fine

It shouldnt really have anything to do with colour as any labrador could be hard to train if not started off right,IMO the order of importance is firstly the breeding, then how you start them off that counts. .
We have had total hooligans in all colours through our rescue generally its been a bad start in life ie: no proper basic training.
You can start training a pup as soon as you get him but only a few minutes a day and make it fun as well and also consider joining a training club in your local area these are not only good fun but teach your dog to be sociable with other dogs and people.
I have owned all three colours of Labs over the years and they have all been easy to train.
Someone put a link on here to the Labrador Breed clubs not sure who but its a good place to start I would be happy to forward any phone numbers if you PM me your area.

Success in training a Labrador = Amount of effort you put in :)
