We are new owners of a 10 week old Weimaraner puppy - we have had her for 2 weeks. She is adorable and cute and clever with the exception of the dreaded biting!! Which is getting worse by the day. Sometimes she does it gently and licks you to death, at other times she hurts a lot and will not stop and looks like the Alien and lunges at your face.

We have tried to give her an alternative item and praise her for chewing that instead; but she prefers our flesh and returns to us quite quickly.

I have a 10 month Weimaraner male, he was like that, chewing on my fingers like they are a bone to chew! Hes gradually getting out of it and i think its just a puppy thing because he doesnt do it half as much now. Since it started to get a problem i just looked him straight in the eye and said firmly "NO" everytime he did it, hes started to learn what "NO" means now. Weimaraners do tend to overule you if you dont put your foot down. And they make out that they are quite dumb, when they are far from it. They can be devious so you have to learn their ways and nip it in the bud. Once you have got them to do what you want to do, they are a champion of a dog. I had to get a crate for mine for when i went out because, even though he has toys and bones to chew, he would chew my furniture instead and get things off the kitchen side. Im am still in touch with the breeder so if you need any advice, just ask. Hope this has been a help.

As minniedog says you need to nip it in the bud now.  When she goes to bite your fingers a very loud and forceful squeal and a over exaggeration of the hurt and then ignore the puppy for a few minutes.  Alternatively you could get a water spray gun and everytime she goes to nip squirt her in the face and loudly yell NO.  That should stop it in its tracks.

If you need any help at all please feel free to e mail me direct at kidmal.weimaraners@ntlworld.com
