i got my akita 7 months old she is now 11 months old she was very shy and still is although she will come when called but then she runs for her corner, she as started chewing items and she as cost me few hundred quid in last week, she wont go for walks, nor will she go for her food in kitchen i have to take food to her i dont understand why she as not come round she as had long enough to bond with us very nervous on sound
Where did you get her from? :)
It sounds as if she was not habituated/socialised until you got her (and when you got her, did you actively socialise her then? ) and if so then she may be very shy. It's also possible she has a medical problem, if you know she was socialised well previously, which is causing her to be shy.
Akitas are one of the breeds that can suffer from hypothyroid, which has many different sumptoms, one of which can be fearfulness, and anxiety. Many dogs show almost none of the symptoms. It may be an idea to have her thyroid tested - but do some research on the net beforehand, because some vets are not that good at diagnosing it and will read the results wrongly, as happened to a friend of mine and her Dobe.
RE the chewing, try oil of cloves or vick rub on areas she chews, and give her plenty of stuffed kongs etc to keep her occupied :)

hi i got her from cheshire and she was still with her mum now dont get me wrong she as improved since i had her but she just wont go for walks and when i get her out she rushing to get back, she as a dribbling nose for 5 months now and i give her loadd of attention i have got her booked into vets for tomorrow to get another check up should i mention this to vets then
I think it's worth a check, just to rule it out, although if she was with her mum at 7 months and had not been socialised by the owner/breeder, that may have a lot to do with it. Many people think socialising is "done" if the dog has a dog in the house to play with, and the family - in fact it's actually getting a young pup out and about and getting it used to all sorts, many dogs and many people ... :)
