my bichon has alot of tearing  my vet just put him on tetracycline  how long will it take to clear up?

Hi Guest, do you mean tear staining? If so I don't think anti-biotics are going to do it any good at all. It's normal for white dogs to have tear stains, but they can be controlled. I use a solution of bicarbonate of soda. I mix a level teaspoon of bicarb with 100ml of cold water, and I wipe the stain with the solution twice a day.It takes about a week for a bad stain to improve.

ive tried the bicarbonate of soda and no change.  i was told tetra changes the ph in the tears so staining stops but not the tearing.  he said the irrigating of the tear ducts does no good
