What a nightmare, came back from shopping to find other half at the end of the road trying to catch a chocolate lab, she had escaped and ran out in front of him, any way when we finally got hold of her she didn't have a collar, so we got Tylers lead and walked up to the vets (dog had poo and wee), when we got there it was shut, just as we were speaking to street wardens the vet turned up she must have popped back so she scanned her and luckily she was chipped, it turned out she lived round the corner from us, one of the kids had left gate open and she had got out. Just to let people know it would have been much easier if she had, had a collar on with number or address.

Im so glad that the dog was not hurt after escaping from garden and has be returned safe and sound.I totally agree with you it would make things alot easier if people put a collar with id disc on,i made sure that my two pups have been corectly tagged they were both microchipped they have id disc as well as a barrel with address and name on dont want to loose my boys they are to precious to loose. jen

So pleased that no harm came to her and that she was reunited with her owners :)

That is my worst nightmare, but thankfully mine won't go 2 feet without me :P

BTW, It is a legal requirement for a dog out in a public place to have an ID tag on at all times. If they don't and you are seen by the dog warden they can report it and the owner gets a fine. Don't know of it ever happening to anyone, but it makes sense. IMO, chipping should also be obligatory :)

It totally amazed me, our dog won't wander too far from us, someone accidently left our front door open and i was frantic, when i went utside Tyler was just grazing on next doors grass, but this lab was making the great escape, she was so excitable which makes sense as the lady said she hadn't been out all day so she would be pulling like crazy, and she was a very strong dog as she was a little over weight. Just glad she was returned safe and sound.

i am glad you posted this as i have been toying with this for a bit. i dont tend to have max in a collar at home as i kind of always had it in my head that it was like his equivalant of shoes and i would put it on him when we went out and take it off so he could relax when we got in. i am beginning to realise that this is not safe. max got out the other week and luckily son saw him do the off and managed to catch up with him before he had even turned the corner but he was off to the park i am sure! he didnt have a collar on and so if james hadnt seen him i dread to think what could of happened! i am now off to put his collar on for good! he has a half check and a softer collar so i am going to attach his identity tag to his soft collar and leave that on all the time and just put his half check on when we go on walks. he is micro chipped but like youi say it is easier if they are wearing a tag

Certainley would have saved us a lot of time out in the cold, each number we rang we got put through to another, i am certainley thinking about getting Tyler chipped now it was amazing seeing it in action, i'm easily pleased.

Glad it all ended well.

Dont know if any of you can help me as I am having a bit of a problem with tags at the moment, they keep getting lost. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats that wear collars and all of them seem to make a habit of breaking or loosing them and it is costing me a fortune. Any ideas would be most welcome.

On friday night one of my girls made her way through (as in chewed through wire mesh and got out) our fence and ran off. It took us over 2.5 hours to get her back. Being surrounded by fields it was a bit of a treck but i was heppier that she had gone in the opposite direction of the main roads.

Unfortunately since then we have had a Border collie sniffing around. Having one bitch left in season i couldn't risk anything "happening" so had to pen her all day until i tried to catch the dog. Today he was back, i still hadn't caught him to get his address from the tag i saw on his collar. I had no option but to phone the dog warden so someone has a dog missing tonight. I hope he gets picked up from the pound (well a boarding kennel that taken in the strays collected by the warden and kept for 5 days), and returned home.

Why do people allow their dogs to wander? Ok so mine got out, it was an accident and the problem has been sorted by double meshing the entire perimiter of the grounds up to 3 feet. I cannot risk them sheep worrying so try my hardest to keep them secure at all times.
After finding myself yet another £180 out of pocket today you would think that people could keep their gardens secure?

Given a resourceful dog and enough time, anything is possible. Especially when a bitch is in season ;)
