Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / how do you let people know?

hi everyone,

Our lil' girl is due to have her pups soon, and i was wondering how do you start to 'advertise', as i know you can place and advert with the kennel club when you register them? (how late is 'late registration' by the way? and what happens if your affix isn't through yet, when it's time to register them?)
We're not sure how many pups there are going to be. will this present a problem when advertising?
Also, what sort of questions should we ask the presepective owners?
Shes a cav, so if theres any particular place for cav's that would be good to. I've been on the club website for the south, but couldnt see anywhere for letting people know about new litters. maybe i've missed it, if i have it would be greatly apreciated if it were pointed out. It's normal staring you in the face isn't it!
But any way, any information would be great! as i know this is probably where i'll find the best advise!
Thankyou
Betty.

Hi again Betty,

The KC's own website has oodles of info on registration and you can also download the forms from there too.  "Late registration" refers to puppies not registered before 12 months of age - hopefully you'll be more organised than that :D

You can place them for a fee on the KC website when you register them.  Additionally I'm assuming you are a member of one of the breed clubs?  That being the case they will hold puppy lists which are sent out to people enquiring after puppies.  In my own breed there is a small fee for advertising the litter and a small donation for each puppy placed through the breed list.

HTH meantime, possibly one of our Cavalier owning members may be better able to advise on specific places to advertise your puppies to the best potential homes.

Regards Teri :)

You mean you have bred your bitch without any puppies ordered ?

There are puppy lists for all the cavalier clubs but I think you will have to be a member to put a litter on them. You can put your puppies on the KC puppy list for a fee but be warned you will have to screen the owners & cavaliers are very popular especially the bitches as many people see them as money making machines & only want them to breed from without showing etc .

If I had not been known to the breeder I got my boys from I would have had to supply a reference from my vet & gone to see the puppies before picking him up(only a 400 mile round trip)& even though I chose a breeder I thought was knowledgeable, I have ended up a young dog with Syringohydromyelia, who has no symptoms, from them something they neglected to tell me could arise as the father of the litter was under  2 1/2 when he was bred from(he has since been PTS with SHM) The current advice is not to breed from un MRI scanned dogs & bitches until a DNA rest is developed

You must advise all prospective puppy buyers about all the health issues in Cavaliers including SHM & the Scan status of your bitch & of the sire failure to do so could cost you a lot of heartbreak & money

Only half scanned your post Betty and just noticed your queries about your Affix perhaps not being through and also prospective questions to ask owners.

If you do a search on the latter I'm fairly sure there was a thread about that quite recently which should help.  Only the KC can advise about your Affix as everything depends on what stage your application is currently at.  Don't want to sound overly critical, but you'll have to get your act together pretty quick as you seem to have left out a lot of important investigation before going ahead with the mating

Still at least your trying to find out now but get your skates on! <lol>

I would ring your breed club secretary and ask if they have a puppy list - most clubs do have one.
