As I've mentioned previously my mum has a gorgeous Pomeranian puppy who is now 5 months.  She looks wonderful, great coat, really small and stocky and looks gorgeous in profile when standing.   But, and it's a big but, she is a horror on the lead :d

She's just so into everything.  She hasn't got a nervous bone in her body !  I know that Pom's are supposed to have spirit but she acts as though she's been on the spirits !  She's running, jumping up and down, spinning, biting ankles you name it.  I don't want to do anything that will get rid of her exuberance as her character is something that I think will get her places, but she needs to calm down and needs to know that she has to walk on all four paws.

Has anybody any ideas, please, she has her first show at WELKS in just under 2 months and then her big show with breed classes and a judge who knows me, Carl will laugh his head off if she carries on the way shie is now.  I can't take her to a Champ. Show like this.  HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When Mia hit the showring back in 2001, she was known as Tigger because she bounced her way around the ring, or she paced & on the rare occasion she did trot the judges saw enough to give her the awards she got.   I would rather have an exuberant pup, one who loves life, as someone told me it's easier to pull them back than pull them forward.   She will calm down as she matures, she is just a pup after all and ALL judges should make allowances for this, I would rather this than a nervous pup.

Mia, by the way, shows beautifully now & is a Sh.Ch.!

LOLOLtwo months is a long time for a puppy & as a judge I would much rather see a bouncy happy puppy that a six month old machine that is old before it's time

Must be something to do with the sound of the name :d  Our Pom is called Mella (pronounced Maya !!)  As I've said in the post I accept that I still want the exuberance but it does need toning down some, don't think the judges will have chance to see her move properly, not even for a split second :d

So pleased.  My mum took Mella to one of the top breeders today and the first things out of his mouth were "How Much" and if such and such showed her she'd be made up!

That will never happen because if we can't do it nobody can.  Oh well, we will just had to work hard to try and get her feet on the ground :d She is a horror and Terri can verify that after seeing her this weekend :d

Perro,

Please don't work this pup too hard, its so lovely that you have a pom so full of life and sparkle :D

I had a pup like this (known as the lunatic) went round the ring on 2 legs until 12 months  :D  Jumped all over the judge when on the table, wouldn't stand for more than 2 secs   - rather than train lots and lose the sparkle I chose to allow the fun and games, then one day I sat down at the ringside in an open show and just let pup watch, and watch (passing comments on good stand, walk) and eventually the penny seemed to drop - "was that it? Really? No jumping? OH! "  ;)   At the next show I had a perfectly behaved dog and we never looked back, sometimes there would be a bit of nonsense but that dog enjoyed showing, showed his socks off and became a champion ;)

LOL

AHHHH don't you just love it? :D :D  (me wanty wanty Pom pup now :) )

Sounds to me as if this pup's got the right personality for the ring, should have real presence when she matures ;)
