Topic Dog Boards / Health / Hormonal male dog - loss of appetite

Hi

I have an 8 month old cocker spaniel who is a poor eater at the best of times.  He has been off his food for about a week - I think he is having some hormonal surges at the moment - can this effect their appetite? - I have never had a puppy before so not sure if this is why he is being difficult to feed at the moment.

I know a male Staffy up the road refuses to eat if there's a bitch in season, can go on for weeks, so hopefully that's all it is and he'll be eating you out of house and home soon.

My springer spaniel has always been a poor eater.  He doesn't seem to be effected by bitches (we had one) but just isn't food orientated.  He's better when the other dogs are around but I always feed them separately and he usually still has food in his bowl in the morning.
